Beltane Blessings from me and my teeny May Queen Flora Belle 🌼🌷
May 1st is significant in the Celtic/pagan calendar; it marks a turning point in the seasons where we start to see the natural world bloom and blossom again 🌞🌷We feel more warmth in our souls with more sun on our skin! 🌞 Life is becoming abundant, creativity is sparked and opportunities for growth and greatness unfold 🥰🌿
Traditionally a May Queen and a Green Man would be chosen from the community to assist the celebrations and represent the spirit of creation, life, prosperity and abundance. Appreciation is shown for a new generation of Flora and Fauna and plenty of feasting and dancing would ensue, with the addition of a bonfire 🔥 to represent the coming warmth.
The May Tree (Hawthorn) is special today. You’ll see it in hedgerows and standing proud in fields and woodlands. It’s actually a shrub (but we won’t tell it that)
You can identify it by it’s beautiful tiny white flowers with a yellow centre, sometimes these flowers are flecked with pink. Don’t forget the thorns that give it its name! The uniquely shaped leaves are very newly grown so their colour is a very fresh, almost lime green. Hawthorn is one of my absolute favourites ❤️💚🤍💛🌸
If you’d like to mark this occasion for yourself or your family, a sweet tradition is to tie your intentions to a May tree 🌳 for the coming year. Hopes of prosperity and happiness can be written down and personalised, added to ribbon and tied to the branches to create a beautiful wishing tree 💕
As always, baking something with love from scratch or as close to from scratch as you can is another fun way to celebrate. The more decadent the better! Rich flavours and colours in sweet or savoury treats are a way to give thanks for all of the vibrance and abundance at this time 💐🥧
My personal favourite is to bask in a hot bath. 🛁 you can use oils, scents and flowers, herbs, salts, clays, bubbles, candles; the lot! There is no limit, just whatever makes you feel connected to the occasion. Big or small 😘
Choosing colours to wear as part of your outfit such as yellow, white, pink, lilac is simple but fun. 🤩 💜
