A new month, a few new faces, and a moment to step out of the shadows and reintroduce myself!
I'm Adrian - a magician based here in York.

My job is simple: I step into a room full of strangers at a wedding or event, break the ice, get people laughing, and leave them with a genuine sense of wonder.

But when the cards are put away, here’s a bit more about the person behind the tricks:

The Roots: Originally from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire, I’m currently staring down the barrel of my mid-40s (the face care routine recently went up a notch or two!!)

The Brain: I'm a bit of a history nerd. I hold two undergraduate degrees and a Master’s in Early Modern History.

The Soundtrack & Hobbies: My life is backed by a heavy metal soundtrack, and whilst listening, I'm a massive computer game player, and tinker with the guitar and piano badly.

The Longest Battle: I am a vegetarian, and I have been trying to learn Spanish for 18 years. Progress is... steady 😂

Honest Monday time!
Doing the Proust questionnaire for today’s acting class on character… honestly one of the hardest things I’ve done. I find it so difficult to delve into my own head.

But the last question — about a motto — got me thinking. I found one that hit me harder than I expected, and maybe one I should actually take to heart.

I see other magicians, for example, doing better than me. Others people seem happier, richer, more fulfilled. And maybe I’ll get there too… but we’re not all starting from the same place.

So today… I need to remember that my journey is mine.
My pace, my progress.. though going to be hard!

On Friday, I went to see the play The Psychic at York Theatre Royal. Without giving anything away, the play (from the brilliant minds of Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman) is a masterclass in the atmosphere of the "medium" industry. It even had a Q&A afterwards, which was great, of course!!
While the play is a work of fiction, it perfectly mirrors the real-world line between "entertainment" and "exploitation" pyshcis and mediums are known for.

Had an amazing time on Saturday performing at the York Rescue Boat charity gala. They do incredible work keeping people safe on our rivers here in York and raising awareness about the dangers around them.

As of January this year, they have saved 45 lives and attended 974 Incidents - all by volunteers!
