Today’s talk explored the different kinds of bias that quietly shape our perceptions, decisions, and even our sense of truth. From confirmation bias to social influence, it’s striking how often we’re not thinking independently, but filtering reality through lenses we didn’t choose. (Shoutout to the visuals from yourbias.is. These are a brilliant resource for making these discussions so engaging)

The challenge isn’t to eliminate bias completely, that’s probably impossible. The challenge is to notice it. To question it. To ask: “Is this really true, or just familiar?”
Because the more aware we become of our own thinking, the more freedom we actually have.

So here’s a question to sit with:
What’s one belief you hold that you’ve never seriously questioned and why?

What happens when a society stops thinking for itself?

And what happens when it starts again?

The Renaissance wasn’t just an art movement. It was a rebirth of human confidence in reason and curiosity.

It was a pleasure to host Katie at The Forum this week.

Katie’s angle on how to rethink our relationship with food is so different to anything you will have heard previously. She focuses on the why and helps you be curious and intentional with yourself, your mind and your choices.

A very successful event and we can’t wait to have her back.

Here’s what Katie had to say:

🙌 Last night I stood on a stage and talked about our relationship with food.

It was scary!
But it was also a good reminder that I know about this stuff and that what I do matters.

You can feel differently about food
You don’t need more control.
You need a different relationship with yourself and with food.

The journey to that may look very different to making your body smaller, at least to begin with.

But if shrinking yourself down, whilst being miserable and conflicted as you attempt to do it, is the only way you know how to value yourself then my view is that something isn’t right.

💜 You are so much more than just the size of your body.

⏰ Tuesday 3rd March could be the evening you begin to positively change your relationship with food.

My talk on Rethinking your Relationship with Food is all ready to go and I’m excited to share it!

We’re going to be looking at
- what a relationship with food even means
- the 3 drivers of disconnection to this being positive
- moving towards a value based approach to food
- how to gain trust in yourself with food.

It will include questions to ask yourself that are going to help you find the answers you need, as well as the opportunity to ask me questions.

😊 So if you’re local to York then come along!

It’s at the Forum at Q, starts at 7.30pm and doors open at 7pm.
Message me the word TALK for more details or head straight to the Forum at Q’s page.
