It’s a question we get asked quite a lot, and we do have a recommendation…but ultimately, it’s to you!

Our recommendation would be to have these before the meal, and there’s a number of reasons for that:

1) your guests have had a long time to chat and mingle already, so it’s a great time to sit and listen to speeches.

2) the big one: if your speakers are nervous, they can fully enjoy their food afterwards!

3) less impact on food service - some couples choose to have their speeches during courses to split them up, and we do understand why, but it can be quite tricky for the caterers during service.

4) if your speeches are after the meal and it runs on much later than expected, your evening guests may arrive during speeches! At least if speeches are before, the top table will be very much done with dinner and able to greet their evening guests as they arrive.

5) a little one really but a practical one…once your guests have finished eating, they want to get up and about; it can be tricky to get everyone back in to listen to the speeches.

Ultimately you should do your speeches whenever feels right for you and we will make it work.

:/// WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE A VENUE TOUR?

There’s three things we think you should be doing before you go and see any venues in person:

1) work out your budget for the venue hire - there’s no point in going at all if it’s out of budget!
2) have a think about how many people you might invite - make sure the venue can hold enough guests or that they’re not too big for your group size.
3) consider your non-negotiables - it could be onsite accommodation, or even outdoors ceremony space, but thinking of these before you start looking for venues will help you narrow them down!
