Bedern Hall Bedern Hall is nestled in the centre of York, and was once the dining Hall for the Vicars Choral of Come and meet the Vicars at York's hidden medieval Hall!

Bedern Hall is the historic 14th century dining hall of the Vicars Choral of York Minster. We also operate as an events venue in the centre of York that can host a variety of events including wedding ceremonies and receptions and family celebrations. We are open regularly to visitors and residents alike and our courtyard cafe provides a retreat from the busy nearby streets. Bedern Hall Company operates as a Non-Profit; so when you hold an event with us the charges you pay go straight back into the preservation of the Hall. So not only can you enjoy your day with us, but you will also be helping to allow others to do so in the future. Our small but professional team, led by Hall Manager Elly Richmond, will take care of arrangements; this is our business and it’s important to us that your event is a success. Bedern Hall is pleased to support a number of local heritage, cultural, charitable and voluntary sector organisations. By providing such groups with affordable meeting space and helping them organise events we help our City to grow. These groups include Shopmobility York, York Design Awards, York Festival Trust (York Mystery Plays), York Shakespeare Project, Association of Voluntary Guides.

Looking for a brilliant night out this November? well look no further as we are incredibly excited to host the utterly brilliant Skald Theatre Group for a limited run of "The Lament of a Hart"—a captivating medieval folk play filled with mystery, obsession, and a monstrous storm.

The Story: Henry and his men have returned from hunting the mythical golden stag, revelling in victory. But when a strange woman arrives seeking shelter, the night takes a haunting turn. Is the golden stag Henry’s final prize—or will his obsession drive him to offer much more than he can give?

Mark Armistice Day with an unforgettable evening of stories, music and remembrance as you step into the experiences of two men who lived through WWII as their first-hand stories are brought vividly to life through film, live performance, song and photography.

Hank’s Story – follow Coldstream Guardsman Dennis “Hank” Haydock from training in North Yorkshire to VE Day.

Smudger’s Story – discover infantryman Ken “Smudger” Smith’s D-Day experiences through spoken word, haunting vocals and his own wartime photographs.

Created and performed by Helena Fox and Natasha Jones.

At Bedern Hall, we offer an intimate and memorable setting for your special day, welcoming up to 75 guests for your ceremony and drinks reception, and up to 60 for your wedding breakfast. Our pretty courtyard and garden terrace provide a beautiful backdrop for photographs, while our central York location makes it easy for your guests to reach us from the railway station and nearby car parks.

Your wedding should feel completely personal to you. Our bespoke in-house catering by Bradshaws of York uses locally sourced, seasonal produce, with plenty of choice for vegetarian, vegan and special dietary requirements. Have a favourite dish or a particular theme in mind? Our experienced team will work with you to create those special touches that make your day uniquely yours.
