Words that genuinely rendered me speechless. And trust me, that's quite an achievement 🤍

But is that really what people think a wedding planner job is and that we simply arrive on the most important day of our clients' lives, clipboard in hand, and ask, "Right then, what's happening?"

The reality is rather different - by the time a wedding day arrives, months will have been spent months planning, coordinating, refining and problem-solving.

Hello & a warm welcome to those of you who’ve recently discovered Weddings By Mary🤍

I thought it was time for a re-introduction & a chance for you to get to know a little more about the Mary behind the business.

Weddings have shaped much of my life and career. I grew up in the hospitality industry, watching my mum run a successful outside catering business, which was very much a baptism of fire introduction into the world of weddings in my teenage years as a waitress.

From there, my own career evolved through PR & sports marketing in London, running my own catering business, managing a local wedding venue for over 10 years, and later becoming a Registrar, where I had the honour of creating the legal & historic record of the marriage in the form of their marriage certificate - hugely meaningful & such a privilege.

In truth, I’ve experienced weddings from almost every angle, and that depth of experience is something I now bring into every wedding I plan.

Weddings By Mary actually began quite unexpectedly 11 years ago, after a local supplier asked if I knew anyone who could plan a marquee wedding for one of their clients. Without hesitation, I said “Me!” … and the rest, as they say, is history.

At the heart of my work is honesty, trust, connection & discretion.

I believe wedding planning should feel calm, collaborative and genuinely enjoyable. My role is not simply to plan a beautiful wedding, but to guide couples with care, clarity and understanding from beginning to end.

I’m known for being incredibly hands-on, a lover of logistics and building amazing relationships not only with couples but also with the trusted network of suppliers built over the years to bring each wedding together seamlessly.

And beyond the weddings?

I’m a hugger, partial to a dancefloor moment, celebrating 30 years of marriage with my husband this September, and most days you’ll find Otis & Blue - my gorgeous grand-pugs - beside me whilst I work.

One of the biggest benefits couples speak about is not just the precious time saved but the mental load removed when hiring me 🤍

You could manage supplier emails in between work. Create spreadsheets after dinner, maybe even spend precious weekends comparing supplier quotations.

But why should you? Your wedding planning should feel joyful and not like a second job - words I've heard uttered many times!!

In a nutshell I love my job and I'm rather good at it too - especially after 11 years, thousands of hours planning weddings across the UK and countless 5⭐ Google reviews.

Without the knowledge & connections couples often rely on recommendations and online portfolios. That’s rarely enough to guarantee a seamless result.

A wedding planner acts as filter, curator and safeguard. It’s not glamorous, but I love it - just as much as I love witnessing couples like K&H beaming from ear to ear and soaking up every second of their wedding! 🤍

Maybe it’s not really about the buttonhole at all…🤍

It’s the pause before the day starts.
The final few quiet minutes before greeting guests.
The nerves, the excitement, the “is this straight?” moments.

But I have to admit, I’m completely obsessed with being the one to pin on the buttonholes.

The Groom. The Best Man. Groomsmen. The Dads. 🤍

Straightening lapels, fixing ties and making sure every little detail feels just right before their day truly begins has become one of my favourite parts of a wedding.

Over the years I’ve also become skilled at emergency buttonhole repairs, carrying spare pins at all times, and quietly re-adjusting anyone who confidently said “don’t worry, I already did mine”

It’s such a small job, but somehow it always feels like such a privilege being part of those calm moments before the ceremony 🤍
