❤️💛Meet our 2026/27 Somerset President💛❤️

Lynne Bartlett

"I'm delighted to introduce Lynne Bartlett of Keynsham Amateur Swimming Club as the Somerset ASA President for 2026/27. Lynne has been involved with swimming for more than 25 years, having answered the call for poolside helpers, which soon progressed to coaching qualifications, and weekends in Loughborough to attain her level 3. With Lynne and Thea Beament heading the coaching team in the noughties, the club saw a level of success which will be hard for us to repeat, feeding many swimmers into the performance programmes at the University of Bath, and City of Bristol, most notably Siobhan Marie O'Connor, and a decade in the Premier Division of the Western Arena League. On retiring from poolside, Lynne has become heavily involved in the Keynsham Committee and has been our chairperson for several years now, meeting the increasing demands of running a swimming club as we recover from a pool closure and the pandemic, and the usual challenges faced by our clubs. Currently Lynne has two grandchildren swimming with the club, which has rather scuppered the retirement from poolside, and she is back coaching our Preliminary Squad, with one of her sons, Tom, now coaching our Juniors. I'm delighted that these many years of service are being recognised with the presidency of Somerset ASA. "

Dear Colleagues,

I trust you all enjoyed this year's Summer Regional Championships over the past few weekends. We acknowledge certain challenges, such as spectator capacity limitations at the venues, and we will be thoroughly reviewing these matters in the coming weeks to identify areas for improvement. Your constructive feedback on potential enhancements is highly valued and will be promptly communicated to the organizing team and the Regional Board for consideration and potential implementation in future events.

In the interim, I am confident you will join me in extending our sincere gratitude to the regional staff who meticulously organized the event, the numerous officials and volunteers whose dedication ensured its success, and the clubs along with their coaching teams and team managers.

Above all, we commend the swimmers who competed, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to achieving sporting excellence.

We also express our appreciation to Malaper Photography Sports for their outstanding photographic contributions, including my own; to the caterers who kept the officials and volunteers fed and watered throughout the championships; and finally to the staff at Millfield Swimming Pool and Hengrove Leisure Centre who showed professionalism and dedication to making the event a success.

We now invite your comments and suggestions.

Sincerely,

Mike Coles, SESW Regional Chair
