Shelsley Walsh

Shelsley Walsh Contact [email protected] for more details It is the hill where drivers want to win and stand on top of the podium.

Shelsley Walsh is the premier speed hill climb venue in the UK with competition weekends and the opportunity to hire the venue for corporate bookings, photo or filming shoots or anything you need. Hill climbing started at Shelsley Walsh in 1905 when the Midland Automobile Club had to find an alternative venue to Sun Rising Hill near Stratford. Since then, and war years apart, the Club has run hill

climbs at Shelsley Walsh ever since, making it the oldest surviving motor sport venue in the world. The hill continues to host the British Hill Climb Championship that sees cars hit 165mph in a thrilling weekend of speed, drama and incredible skill with the opportunity for spectators to get right up close to the action. Shelsley is also available to private hire, photo or film shoots and testing, just get in touch and we can talk about how we can help.

Taking a Flashback to the 1940s and a Bugatti T35 rushing up Shelsley Walsh through the Crossing bend, this picture appeared in none other than Tatler Magazine in 1948.

Transforming forward to this year, the track is unchanged with the same railings there too. Some trees are gone, but others are taller and have witnessed some wonderful motorsport stories.

F40 heaven. Does it get any better...?

This magnificent Modena magic was just one of the stunning cars that attended our Sunday Breakfast Club and Thursday Cars In The Valley evenings over the summer of 2025.

Remember, access to these events is all included in the annual membership of the Midland Automobile Club that starts at Β£125 for two tickets for the whole year, plus there's Junior membership (16-21 year olds) Β£40 to help the next generation of car lovers and racers.

It's RAC Rally time of year so here are two cars that won the RAC with Colin McRae at the wheel. L555 BAT from 1995 when Colin won the World Rally Championship in Chester and his 1997 car that won when the rally was based at Cheltenham.

Both were at Shelsley Walsh this July for our Classic Nostalgia weekend, burbling away with that familiar Subaru exhaust note that is so evocative of Group A and WRC rallying at its best.

We've had many stunning record breaking cars at Shelsley Walsh over the decades, one of them being the svelte and agile Gould GR51 that Graeme Wight Junior took to the British Hill Climb Championship in 2001 and 2002.

With a brand new purpose-built chassis and tiny V6 2.5 litre Cosworth engine that had previous been used in the German DTM series, Wight Jr was the first person to break into the 24 second bracket when in June 2002 he clocked 24.85 seconds with Sir Stirling Moss presenting him with the trophy and a cheque for Β£1000 for being the first person to 'Do a 24'.

A year later in 2003 he went quicker again to set 24.56 seconds in front of a full crowd who were thrilled to see history made once more. Wight Jr was genuinely spectacular to watch with lightning reactions behind the wheel with many enjoying his battles on the hills of the UK.

Here's his 2003 record run with some great pictures from John Charters. Turn it up!
