Fernhill Heath in Bloom

Sunday July 19th - Sunday July 26th

Let’s brighten our village up as now is the time to get all your bedding plants out, plant up baskets and containers or why not just make a colourful wreath to go on your front door. All you need do then is enter your front garden, basket, pot or wreath on the form which will be on the next edition of the Focus magazine. We can then make a trail - as we do for scarecrows - for people to follow the map of where to find the lovely gardens etc as they walk round the village. Perhaps you put something that children could look for amongst the garden, pot or wreath and can be viewed from the pathway. The pop up cafe will be open that week to so a great time for families and friends to get out and about.

So a large group of youngsters on the Brum Monday afternoon thought it was ‘fun’ to destroy a £12,000 piece of inclusive play equipment. Sadly it is too damaged to be repaired. If you know any of the youngsters involved, please let us know in confidence, as know there were several people in the park between 3-5pm. To those of you visiting the play area I am sorry this is missing and there is unsightly fencing there - a necessity for safety.

Please can we ask all dog owners to keep their dogs out of the pond on Bull Meadow for the next few weeks. Whilst clearing some of the overgrown bull rushes, one of our 3 fabulous volunteers noticed this Moorhens nest with 7 eggs in it. It was left undisturbed and we very much hope that the eggs will hatch and we can enjoy watching young chicks happily swimming round the pond. Huge thanks to the 3 who worked so hard in the pond thinning out the bullrushes.

DO YOU HAVE A PAIR OF WADERS OR LONG WELLIES??

HELP NEEDED THIS FRIDAY MORNING 10am BULL MEADOW POND.
The bullrushes might look lovely but they have taken hold of the pond area and are threatening to over take it. If you can spare 1-2hrs to come along on Friday morning it would be much appreciated. People needed to go inside the pond but also people on the edges to take the old wet bull rushes and lay them in piles to dry out. Secateurs and forks useful but rubber gloves essential to stop hands being cut. A great way to meet others and to spend time outside on beautiful Bull Meadow. Looking forward to seeing you!🤞

Despite hail and snow today signs telling you what has been planted in Bull Meadow are being installed - and there’s a QR code on each to scan taking you to the same info on the parish council website if you’d prefer to read it at your leisure. More are in the pipeline to further your enjoyment of this amazing open space in our village.

MEN WANTED!
Must have:
* Size 8 feet OR own waders.
* Affinity with mud.
* Warm underwear (advisory but not essential).
* Waterproof gloves.
*GSOH.
North Claines Parish Council is desperate to find a couple of people who would be happy to wade into the shallow pond that was dug in Bull Meadow to remove some of the bullrushes that are finding it exceptionally suitable habitat, to the extent that frogs may not be able to get in to spawn.
If you are a keen fisherman with your own waders (we have one pair of size 8 we could loan) and would be happy to wade in and pull some bullrushes out, please get in touch!
It shouldn't take too long, especially if a few people volunteer.
Wages to include eternal gratitude and coffee/tea and cake if we know when you're coming.
***BULLRUSHES FREE ON APPLICATION after the kind wading volunteers have been - bring your own bag or bucket.
