We’ve told you about the big stages. (Edinburgh Castle, the OVO Hydro, the Barrowlands...) But there’s another side to seeing Norrie MacIver live.

Earlier this year, a review of his solo show praised the stripped-back setting of simply voice and guitar, where the songs, stories and interaction with the audience took centre stage. We think our stage might be perfect for that!

Just Norrie, a guitar, the songs… and apparently quite a lot of stories in between.

That’s how Norrie MacIver describes his October solo tour, stripping things right back after recent full-band shows for something altogether more intimate.

He’ll be playing songs from his new album Roots Beneath, music from across the years and a few old favourites along the way. Norrie says these smaller solo shows are a completely different experience from playing with the full band, and ones he particularly loves doing.

And one of those shows is right here in Wolverhampton.

In 2024, Norrie "Tago" MacIver stood on stage at Edinburgh Castle in front of more than 8,000 people and on 17 October, he’s coming to Wolverhampton Arts Centre.

We cannot promise 8,000 people for reasons!! but CAN promise the chance to hear that voice in a much more intimate setting!

Not a bad year for Norrie MacIver…
His new 12-track album Roots Beneath arrived in August and reached No. 17 on the Official Album Downloads Chart.

Featuring original songs in English and Gaelic, the album explores family, love, island life and that enduring pull of home, with tracks including The Weavers Hands, This Is How We Do It In The Western Isles, Harris Tweed, Island Crowd and Sing Me Home.

It’s music with the Isle of Lewis and Norrie’s Gaelic roots running right through it, and you can hear songs from the album live when he joins us in Wolverhampton.

Let us introduce you to Norrie "Tago" MacIver …

Hailing from the Isle of Lewis, Norrie is an award-winning Gaelic singer and songwriter who spent nine years as the lead singer of Skipinnish, performing on some pretty enormous stages along the way, including Edinburgh Castle and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.

Now he’s back out under his own name, returning to his solo roots with songs spanning Gaelic tradition, contemporary folk and plenty of stories gathered along the way.

And rather wonderfully, his UK solo tour is bringing him to Wolverhampton.

If Norrie’s already on your radar, you’ll know why we’re excited about this one.

" Sam Carter was amazing in concert last night with his Nic Jones set of songs. The lady on our table had seen Nic in concert and said if she closed her eyes for a moment it was like being in one of his gigs. We look forward to Sam returning in the future."
