IT'S FRIDAY AGAIN!
The chaps over at the weather centre have finally woken up to the fact it is June and have turned the sunshine dial up to eleven. It’s a warm, dry, golden light that I’d forgotten existed – it’s like finding a tenner in your back pocket.
So what does this mean…
• BBQs, obviously
• Cracking open some cold, local indie beers, which just so happen to be available at Phil’s Good Food
• British men taking their shirts off
• And of course… festival season
And if you are not off to Glasto or some field filled with glitter and compost loos, fear not. We’ve got you covered.
SAVE THE DATE – 12th JULY
Ready or not, we’re popping up again. Louder, sunnier, and better than ever.
Yes, Noisy Neighbours are at the Horseshoe Lake Open Day – 12th July.
Expect live music (us), stalls, BBQs, food & drink, and activities galore. It’s family-friendly, outdoorsy, watery and full of good vibes. If you haven’t been before, this is your chance. We’ll be there making noise and trying to look cool while squinting directly into the sun.
SPEAKING OF LIVE MUSIC...
Last Friday (which is very much a school night for me) I went to a proper gig. As in: paid money, sat in a big arena, watched people on an actual stage with actual lighting.
Pulp at the O2 , and let me tell you, it was really very quite good. The first live music I’ve actively wanted to go and see in quite a while (seriously, where are all the up-and-coming bands hiding these days?).
Jarvis Cocker, looking like your old Geography teacher was thoroughly entertaining; witty, weird, and wiry.
It reminded me why live music is magic. And yes, it was worth the ticket price just to hear 20,000 people dancing and singing Common People.
And speaking of common people…
HERE’S THE POST-MATCH ROUND-UP OF FATHER’S DAY
Thanks (as always) to everyone who panic-bought a hamper on Saturday! The extra business really helped us! The dads of Wokingham are now sitting happily in garden chairs, surrounded by sancks, cured meats and craft beers, wondering what they did to deserve it.
And for those who forgot (or haven’t seen your dad yet), don’t panic. Just pop into the shop, grab a few bits, and tell him it’s “Father’s Fortnight.” Say it with confidence. He will never know! Check out our selection at www.philsgoodfood.co.uk/fathers-day (and remember - the hampers are between £5 and £10 cheaper in store!
GRRR UPDATE: CHARITY TIN THEFT
Quick follow-up on the gentleman (that’s the best word I could find that wouldn’t get me banned from FB) who ran off with the charity tin for The Cowshed. The police have the footage and the person in question has been identified. Will see you in court soon!
We’ll have a new tin out soon, and your generosity never goes unnoticed. Thank you all.
SHOP LIFE: THE MUSICAL
When not playing with the band, I’m still mostly found behind the till, pretending to know what I’m doing and occasionally singing along to ‘70s hits while trying to sell you some cheese.
The other day, someone asked me for “something light and fizzy for a garden party” and I offered them a bottle of prosecco and a kazoo. That’s five-star customer service, and you won’t find that in your giant, cash-centric, plastic-polluting supermarkets.
And if you need prosecco – just pop by and grab some.
FINAL NOTES FROM THE TILL
Thanks for supporting the shop, the gigs, and my ongoing experiment in joyful chaos.
We’ll keep making hampers, playing tunes, and pretending to know we know all the difficult bits.
Here’s to the summer, indie beer, singalongs, and picnics.
Cheers
