Being recognised by UNESCO feels like someone finally stamped a passport I’ve carried all my life.
It’s not just the food — it’s who we are. It’s the way Italian culture lives inside you even after you’ve crossed borders, learnt new languages, built a life somewhere else. This recognition isn’t validation — we Italians never needed that; we sucked the worship of food with our mother’s milk — but it’s a reminder that what shaped us is not just heritage, it’s a global treasure. And for those of us who live between cultures, it’s proof that our roots weren’t left behind; they travel with us, plate after plate, story after story, deep-rooted in our blood.
We’ve been carrying centuries of craft in our fingertips while the rest of the world thought it was just “pasta and pizza.” No. It’s the Nonna on Sunday morning, stirring the same slowly bubbling pot her grandmother stirred.
