PART I – The 1970s: The First Beat

So, we've been asked for some behind the scenes content here at Yanada. You asked, we delivered! A word to the wise, what you will hear from us over the next three days is 100% made up...

In a parallel universe where radio waves shimmered faintly in the night sky, three lads from England stumbled upon something unusual.

Chris Johnson heard it first. A soft pulse hidden inside the static of his homemade radio. It was not music, not noise, but a strange beat that seemed to glow. Grant Trowbridge felt it immediately, as if the world had widened around him. Luke Terry listened once and began sketching ideas for synthesizers that did not yet exist.

Inspired by early Jean Michel Jarre experiments, they tried to recreate the sound using whatever they could salvage. Chris built crude oscillators. Grant wired a battered keyboard to mismatched speakers. Luke created a wooden box with bulbs that flashed in time with the sound.

Their first attempt was rough, but when they played it back, the bulbs shone brighter than they should have. The shed filled with a warm vibration.
Neighbours whispered about strange lights. Kids claimed they heard future music.
The lads did not know it yet, but they had created the first Yanada beat. And it was only the beginning...

Artist Spotlight: Grant Trowbridge Music

Today we’re highlighting Grant Trowbridge, a Trance and Progressive producer and DJ based in Oxfordshire, and one of the three core members steering Yanada Recordings.

Grant has made a rapid ascent in the trance scene over the last few years, delivering exceptionally strong productions across some of the genre’s most respected labels. His music has featured on Borderline, Pure Trance, FSOE, and includes a standout remix of Pulser – In Deep on Toneplay, helping establish him as one of the most consistent new names in the UK trance landscape.

Grant first teased his way into Yanada with a couple of well‑received reworks, and his first original release on the label is just around the corner. This is a collaboration with Luke Terry and vocalist Auréia. It’s a project we’re very excited to share, showcasing Grant’s melodic clarity and club‑focused production style.

Outside the studio, Grant is well known for his DJing prowess, with regular slots up and down the country. He also hosts the monthly Borderline Radio show, where he continues to champion cutting‑edge trance and highlight new talent across the scene.

Grant plays a major role in shaping Yanada’s direction, both musically and behind the scenes, and we’re looking forward to releasing more of his work in the coming months.
