🚨 ADVANCE NOTICE OF NEXT M3 J9 WEEKEND CLOSURES

Update from National Highways: South-East working in partnership with the Volker Fitzpatrick Balfour Beatty Joint Venture (VFBBJV)

"As you’ll be aware, earlier this year we lifted into place new M3 roundabout bridge beams. Since then, we’ve worked on new road alignments and surfacing.

"Now that all traffic is running on the new M3 junction 9 roundabout alignment we’ll need to demolish the old bridges as well as complete additional carriageway work on the M3 northbound exit slip road such as associated widening work.

"M3 northbound exit slip road: The work during this weekend will mainly be surfacing and kerbing, which involves large machines such as planers and asphalt layers. Due to the complex work needed we need to close it for a full weekend. This is planned for:
👉 9pm Friday 9 October to 6am Monday 12 October

"Overnight closures of the M3 northbound between junctions 10 and 8 (9pm to 6am) will be required on
👉 Friday 9 October and Sunday 11 October 2026
to safely install and remove barriers for the slip road closure.

Bridge Demolitions

"The work will mostly involve using large machines placed on the M3, which will break up the old bridge decks and supports on to the carriageways below, ready to be taken off site and processed for recycling.

"Due to the nature of the demolition work will need to close the M3 in both directions between junctions 8 and 9 over two weekends. These are planned for:
👉 9pm Friday 23 October to 6am Monday 26 October 2026 (northern bridge demolition)
👉 9pm Friday 6 November to 6am Monday 9 November 2026 (southern bridge demolition)

"Our diversion routes are designed to suit all vehicle types.
We advise you not to use a Satnav when following any of our diversions because there is a risk it could direct you down an unsuitable road or back onto our network when it is closed.

"Please remember that closures can change at short notice. In the event of poor weather conditions or other issues out of our control, planned work may be postponed at short notice.

We'll be closing the roundabout to finish essential road connections to the new roundabout and bridges on the interchange. Please remember that only the roundabout will be closed, meaning:

➡️ The M3 is open through Junction 9

⚠️ However, the slip roads leading on and off the junction will be closed. This means there will be no access to the M3 northbound from the roundabout.

❌ Follow the official signposted diversions – do not rely on sat navs.
