Members BBQ + Bring a Friend Open Day 🌿

This Thursday, 17th September, we’re opening Abbey Mill up to anyone who’s curious about trying the space.

If you’re already a member, bring a friend along. If you’ve never worked from Abbey Mill before, come and trial the space for free, bring someone with you, meet some of our members and the Abbey Mill team, and get a proper feel for what the community is like.

Then from 3pm we’ll be firing up the BBQ 🍔!

No pressure, no hard sell, just a relaxed chance to work from Abbey Mill, meet people and see whether it might be for you.

Jo is an Everest summiteer and expedition leader, and she’ll be sharing stories from her incredible adventures, followed by a film screening.

There’s a lot more to Abbey Mill than meets the eye 🤍

Beneath the building, the water still runs through the historic mill leat and sluices that once powered a working corn mill on this site.

Records of milling here stretch back to the Saxon period, with the mill later forming part of St Mary’s Abbey and helping support life within the monastery. The building we know today developed over centuries, with the present mill complex largely dating from the 18th century.

And although silk production later became part of the Abbey Mills story, it wasn’t where it all began. In 1796, a separate silk mill was built alongside the existing flour mill, sharing the same powerful water source.

More than 1,000 years later, that water is still flowing beneath Abbey Mill today.

Quite amazing to think about when you’re sitting upstairs with a coffee. 🤎

An evening of adventure, resilience and inspiration at Abbey Mill 🏔️

Join us on Thursday 24th September for a special evening with Everest summiteer and expedition leader Jo Bradshaw, in collaboration with Wi******er Walkabout Group.

We’ll be screening More Than A Mountain, celebrating the life and legacy of Junko Tabei, the first woman to summit Mount Everest, followed by a live Q&A with Jo, fresh from her return from Nepal and the Everest Marathon.

Expect incredible stories from the mountains, plenty of inspiration and the chance to hear first-hand from someone who knows what it means to push beyond the ordinary.

I have to say, as a genuine country music lover myself, this might be the event I’m most excited for…

Join us at Abbey Mill on Saturday 3rd October for a full-on country night, with beef brisket BBQ, line dancing, corn hole, a bucking bronco and live country music all evening.

Expect everything from modern favourites like Ella Langley to country legends like George Strait, with plenty of dancing as we turn the Mill into our very own Wi******er hoedown for the night.
