How I became a Wedding Stationer ✏️

I wanted to share with you all how I got into wedding stationery design, as it’s one of the questions I get asked most at wedding fairs.

Growing up I was always creative, enjoying art and design whilst at school, so much so, I eventually ended up studying Illustration at university. I’ve always had a love for hand drawn images, especially a mix of watercolour and pen.

After university I stayed creative and worked on projects and briefs alongside my full time employment, often producing designs for friends and small businesses, including having my first work published in 2013 in a magazine.

It was one of my close friends from university, who asked if I could design her wedding stationery back in 2017. After Lydia’s wedding, I continued to build up my portfolio, often creating mock designs to share online and at wedding fairs to attract couples to work with.

With each new commission I was able to develop my style, refine my process for working with each couple and further my understanding of the process and wedding industry.

As a result of all the hard work over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to create a wide ranging portfolio of work and examples and be able to work full time as a wedding stationery designer.

❤️💙

A massive congratulations to Simon & Simon who tied the knot last weekend at the beautiful Broome Park Hotel in Canterbury.

I worked closely with the grooms to create stationery that fit their blue and red theme. Their invitations featured these original watercolour illustrations of the venue, the main hotel building and the ceremony space in the grounds.

Their final designs were printed on a white paper smooth paper stock with a luxury, tactile feel.

There were a lot of elements to their final suite, so keep an eye out for more stationery I created for them, I'll be sharing with you soon.

Watercolour & pencil illustration of Whitstable Castle.

This is a venue I've been fortunate to draw several times, so for this illustration I decided to draw it from a different view and absolutely love the outcome.

I've used this image for a Welcome Sign design and mock invitation to showcase at Saturday's Wedding Open Day. If you're in the process of planning your special day and looking for a venue, be sure to get yourself along.

Lizzie & Will 💕

A massive congratulations to Lizzie & Will, a fantastic couple I had a pleasure of working with recently, who tied the knot over the weekend.

For their wedding stationery they kept it classic, elegant watercolour florals in their soft pink colour scheme, featuring cherry blossom that would be part of the decor on the day.

This theme was carried through to their day stationery items, which featured an order of service, place cards, menus and a fruit themed table plan, all of which were fruits farmed by the brides family and truly personal to them.

Zesty 🍋

Recently I've had a couple of projects asking me to draw fruits which I've really enjoyed, as not my usual subject matter (although the first illustration I ever had published was fruit themed, so it's been great to revisit them since my style has evolved).

These lemons are for some mock stationery designs to be used at the Whitstable Castle wedding open day this weekend, drawing in pencil and watercolour, using a soft grey outline to add definition.

I've used the illustrations I produced on Menus, Place Cards and a Gin themed table plan, which I will share with you later in the week ☺️

Gift Illustration 🤍

This one was a really special one for me. This was commissioned for a friend of mine who recently got married but sadly in the last few years had lost two people very close to her.

Her Maid of Honour commissioned this illustration of her with Jack & Pauline by her side on her special day, looking out at the stunning view from the venue Watermouth Cove, with a special message below.

This original illustration was drawn using watercolour, fine liner and pencil.

A huge congratulations to Lauren & Bradley who tied the knot this weekend at the beautiful Old Kent Barn.

I created these day & evening invitations for them last year. The artwork of the flowers and bandstand, was drawn in a softer style then I usually create, opting for a grey outline rather than my usual black outline and the result was this beautiful, romanic designs.

The illustrations are all hand drawn using fine liner, watercolour and pencil, then printed on a luxury, white textured paper stock for a rustic, elegant finish.

Bijou Bride 💕

Watercolour and pen illustration of Bijou Trial Studio's new shop front in Faversham, a little gift to thank them for inviting me along to their open evening last week.

Working on this was a lot fun and nice to have a bit of a play and it's given me the idea that I'd like to do a series of illustrations shouting out a few of my favourite wedding businesses and suppliers that I've met and worked alongside, so keep your eyes peeled for some more of these in the future.

If you have a building or venue you're looking for a portrait of I do also take commissions, which you can find out more about on my website, under the Gift Illustration section ✏️

Sketching 🖊

Love, love, love getting to sketch the different parts of the Old Kent Barn and remember our own magical day there surrounded by our families and loved ones.

I'm currently working with several couples getting married at this beautiful venue, all with very different styles and ideas for their stationery.

When they're all done it's going to be a great way to show that even if you're getting married at the same venue and using that within your design, that you can really add your own style and story to your stationery.
