Since 1987, the Lighthouse and former keepers’ cottages have been operated as a visitor centre by North Tyneside Council. The surrounding Nature Reserve contains rockpools, clifftop grassland, a beach and wetland habitat. Check our m

How did you celebrate world oceans day? We had a school visit yesterday and learn about the amazing creatures in our reserve. We are always so proud to have school children visit who are keen on conservation 😁

As its national volunteer week we wanted to say a huge thank you to all the people who make a big difference in our local nature reserve, thank you.

Have you popped in to the bird hide on the island to see what the self organised St. Mary's Island Wildlife Conservation Society volunteers have been up to? Thanks for making a nice space for people to connect with wild seals and birds from a safe distance.

We did another lovely party this morning what a lovely bunch of people lots of nice rockpool creatures spotted in the rockpools and party food in the best room of the the lighthouse cottages 🎉 we close at 1pm today due to the tides thanks

Happy birthday to Alice and Sophie! We kicked off a lovely bank holiday weekend with a super birthday rockpooling session. Amongst the fish and crabs and all the lovely usual creatures we found some more unusual finds including a wrasse and a very large berried squat lobster pictured and allsafety back where they were found before we headed back for party food in the conference room with beautiful views of the coast 🌊🌞 🐟
