Half term, payday weekend and Weymouth and Portland have decided to fully commit to entertaining you!

There’s pirate family fun at Nothe Fort, toddler theatre at the Pavilion, guided walks by the sea, Nordic walking across Weymouth, Dorset Art Weeks exhibitions, markets, karaoke, brunches, live music, fossils at the Pop Up Museum and enough pub gardens filling up to make finding a spare table a competitive sport.

Kids can go hunting for pirate adventures while adults pretend they’re “just popping out for one”.

From harbour wanderers to full weekend planners, there’s a bit of everything happening across Weymouth and Portland this weekend.

Something good is happening.

Monday life admin reminder:

Please upload your events to WeyPort so we can stop conducting advanced investigative journalism across 34 pages, 12 pub accounts and one blurry poster photographed at a strange angle in a beer garden.

You get more people through the door.
Everyone finds out what’s on.
We get slightly less internet-induced eye strain.

Win win really. 💙

SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT 🍻🎶

This week’s spotlight goes to The Donkey Social — a venue that’s had a huge refurbishment and brought a proper community pub feel right back into the heart of Weymouth.

There’s live music, sport on screen, a beer garden that suddenly becomes everyone’s location the minute the sun appears, and a real mix of people using the place again.

Definitely worth sticking on your Weymouth pub rotation this summer.

Something good is happening. 💙

FRIDAY FEELS ☕🎶

One minute you’re thinking “quiet weekend.”

Next minute somebody sends you a gig poster, your mate mentions a food festival, there’s karaoke somewhere, live music in three different pubs, a random market you forgot about and suddenly your entire Bank Holiday is fully booked.

That’s basically why WeyPort exists.

Our weekly newsletter rounds up what’s happening across Weymouth and Portland without you having to scroll through 47 pages wondering where everyone suddenly disappeared to.

Live music. Community events. Theatre. Markets. Quizzes. Family stuff. Weird little things you’d never normally hear about until somebody mentions them afterwards.

WEEKEND GIG GUIDE 🎶

Right then. Deep breath.

There is SO much live music happening across Weymouth and Portland this Bank Holiday weekend that attempting to “just pop out for one” feels wildly optimistic.

In fact, there’s so much going on that it physically would not all fit on the poster without requiring a magnifying glass.

So if your favourite band, singer, DJ, karaoke night, acoustic duo or pub session isn’t named below, don’t panic. There is genuinely music happening absolutely everywhere.

We’ve got country nights, indie bands, acoustic sessions, DJs, karaoke, pop punk, rock covers, Sunday sessions, quiz nights, beach bar music and at least six pubs where somebody will absolutely end up singing Mr Brightside before the weekend is over.

A few of the live music picks across the weekend:

FRIDAY
Hooked on Boots • The Ultimate Eagles • Jaunty • Crash Bang Wallop! with Chris Payn • Jordan Watts • The Thirsty Ferrets • Pop Punk/Emo Night at Finns • Madeira Drive launch party • Rob Davis at Sailors Return • open mics and karaoke across town

SATURDAY
WykeFest • Milk & Two • Electronique at The Spice Ship • DuKane • The Riffs • The JukeBox Junkies • The 5 O’Clock Heroes • Knock ‘N’ Run • Sugar Rush • Wildcats 56 • Fluke Live! • Rob Davis at The Duke of Cornwall • DJs and live bands everywhere you look

SUNDAY
CHILL - The Party Band • The Other Band • Madeira Drive • The Undecided • Rip It Up • Rob Davis at Ocean Breeze Bar • Rob Davis at The Tin Cat • more acoustic sessions, pub garden music and “go on then, one more” decisions

MONDAY
Karen Melanie Kay • Jamie Pinnow's jam sesh • plus quizzes, karaoke, laid back Bank Holiday sessions and the sort of live music afternoons that somehow become evenings

From harbour pubs and beach bars to theatres, cocktail bars, workies and hidden little corners of pubs you forgot even had stages, there’s music happening all weekend long.

BANK HOLIDAY PICKS: FRIDAY TO MONDAY ☀️

Long weekends have a habit of turning into “just one drink” and somehow ending with karaoke, a harbour wander, live music in a beer garden or buying something completely unnecessary at a craft fair.

This weekend across Weymouth and Portland there’s country nights, wrestling, skate sessions, karaoke, yoga breakfasts, live bands, open mics, family events, markets, theatre, pirate fun, bingo, quizzes and more.

A few highlights include:
• Fayre In The Square by the harbour
• WykeFest at The The Wyke Smugglers
• Big League Wrestling at Weymouth Pavilion
• Pirate Family Fun at Nothe Fort
• Food & Craft Fair at Abbotsbury Swannery
• Pop Punk/Emo Night at Finns Weymouth
• Live music all across the weekend at pubs and venues around town

Whether you’re planning a full weekend or just seeing where the day ends up, there’s plenty happening.

Sunday Spotlight...

You’ve probably heard of Finnian McGurk somewhere already, even if you didn’t catch the name at the time.

One of those musicians who seems woven into the soundtrack of Weymouth life, turning up in harbour bars, Sunday sessions, packed pubs and sunny afternoons with a guitar and a crowd quietly singing along before they’ve even realised they are.

No gimmicks. No overproduction. Just proper live music, familiar songs, a good atmosphere and the sort of set that makes people stay for “just one more”.

This week’s WeyPort Sunday Spotlight goes to Finn - one of the people helping keep Weymouth’s live music scene alive week in, week out.

If you spot him playing somewhere soon, stick around for a bit. Chances are your evening will end up better than you planned.
