I have been part of WoW World Group since 2010, running my own Baby Sensory & Mini Professors Classes in Reading & Oxford area. I also support a fabulous team of ladies in my Thames West Valley Region. Since moving back down to Weymouth in the summer of 2022, I have been given the opportunity to bring Mini Professors to this area too, which I am very excited about. I love being a part of someone's special celebration and showing science in a fun and interactive way, it certainly brings a smile to my face and hopefully the children too .... going by the squeals of excitement as children involve themselves in experiment after experiment, they certainly look like they are having a great time too. This is why I absolutely love the job I do!

Nobody comes to Spooky Science thinking about school readiness. They come for the potions and the spooky theme. Which is exactly why it works so well.

Following instructions, asking questions, trying something and working out why it did what it did, that's the same muscle they'll use in a classroom, we've just dressed it up as Halloween magic. Curiosity and confidence, built one bubbling reaction at a time.

Tuesday 27th October is Potions and Slime, but make it a whole day.

9am to 3.30pm of bubbling reactions, homemade slime, and a proper investigation running through the day rather than one quick activity. It's the same brilliant theme as Monday with room to really get stuck into the science, and it means a full day sorted for you too.

Let's talk potions.

Fizzing reactions, colour changing liquids, a proper bubbling cauldron, and yes, it will get a little bit messy (that's usually how you know it's working). Every experiment is one your child does themselves, not one they watch us do from a safe distance.

If you've got a four to eight year old, Monday 26th October is built for them.

Potions and Slime, 9am to 12pm, in a smaller group so our younger scientists get proper hands on time with every experiment, not just a turn at the end of a big queue. Expect fizzing, colour changing, gloriously slimy mess, and a lot of very serious four year olds concentrating extremely hard.

It's a half day, so it's a gentle way into half term clubs if your little one hasn't done a full day away from you before. Or if a full day isn't what you're after, it's a lovely little Halloween treat, a morning of fizzing, slimy fun without the full day commitment.

At Mini Professors, we don’t expect every child to jump straight in. We give them the time, space and encouragement to settle at their own pace.

Week by week, those nervous little steps can become confident ones.

I NEED MORE PROFESSORS

Mini Professors is growing, which is brilliant.

But I've hit a slight logistical problem.

I can't actually be in two schools at once.

So I'm growing my team and looking for people to work with Mini Professors across Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester.

I'm looking for:
After School Club Leaders
Holiday Club Leaders
Practitioners to work in schools and nurseries
Lab Assistants to assist at Holiday Clubs & After School Clubs

And please don't read the word "Professor" and decide you're not qualified before you've even looked.

I'm not necessarily looking for scientists.
I'm looking for people who are brilliant with children.
People who are curious, enthusiastic and reliable. Who will sit down beside a child, get stuck into an experiment and ask, "What do YOU think is going to happen?"

The science can be learnt.
The lessons are already written.
The experiments are planned.
The equipment is provided.
And I'll support you all of the way.

Some of the roles are just a few hours. Some are term time. Some are during school holidays. So this could work alongside another job, family life or other commitments.

Sometimes the biggest win at holiday club has absolutely nothing to do with the experiment.

One little girl arrived with her grandmother who thought she might only manage an hour.

She was nervous.

So we didn’t push.

We gave her time to colour, chat, watch what was going on and find children she felt comfortable with.

She stayed for the whole day.

That is exactly why settling in is never treated like an inconvenience here.

Children do not all walk through the door ready to throw themselves into everything straight away. Some need a bit longer. Some need to watch first. Some just need to know they are safe.

And once they feel that, the rest tends to follow.
