At Portland Pirate Day, Emma, our roving reporter, caught up with volunteers from Cycling Without Age Weymouth and Portland.

The groups are volunteer-led initiatives providing free trishaw rides for older people and those with limited mobility, helping passengers get outdoors, enjoy fresh air, and reconnect with the local coastline and community atmosphere. During the event, the team were out and about engaging with visitors and sharing the purpose behind their rides, which focus on companionship, movement, and simple enjoyment of being outside.

Emma’s conversations highlighted how the initiative continues to bring people together at local events like Portland Pirate Day, where community spirit and accessibility meet in a very visible, hands-on way.

There’s still time to pop down to Portland Pirate Day and enjoy a trishaw ride as part of the swashbuckling fun which is all happening in Easton Park on Portland until 6pm.

Alyce Rockliff Completes 70-Mile Ultra Challenge For Friend Battling Incurable Cancer

There were celebrations on Saturday evening as Alyce Rockliff crossed the finish line of a gruelling 70-mile ultramarathon along Hadrian’s Wall, completing one of the UK’s toughest endurance challenges in support of a close friend living with incurable cancer.

Alyce finished the Rat Race “The Wall” event in 15 hours, 1 minute and 47 seconds after setting off at 7am and pushing through a demanding day across the historic route. Friends and supporters followed her progress throughout the challenge, cheering her on as she passed checkpoints at Lanercost Priory, Walltown Quarry, The Sill, Hexham and Newburn before reaching the finish shortly after 10pm.

The challenge formed part of a fundraising effort for Josh, who was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer at just 39 years old.

Following emergency surgery and months of treatment, Josh has been told his cancer is incurable. Despite the devastating diagnosis, he continues to fight every day for more time with his wife Lindsay, their nine-year-old son and his 16-year-old stepson.

Alyce is not alone in supporting the cause. Fellow fundraiser Amelia is also taking on a major endurance challenge. Today, she is competing in a middle-distance triathlon – the equivalent of a Half Ironman – consisting of a 1.9km swim, a 90km bike ride and a 21.1km half marathon run.

Together, the two women have set themselves extraordinary physical tests to help raise money for Josh and his family, enabling them to create precious memories together while continuing to navigate the challenges of his illness.

Alyce’s successful completion of the 70-mile ultramarathon marks a significant milestone in the fundraising campaign and has been met with an outpouring of congratulations from friends, family and supporters. Attention now turns to Amelia as she takes on her own demanding challenge in support of the appeal.

Those wishing to support Josh and his family can donate via the Bucket List for Josh GoFundMe appeal. https://www.gofundme.com/f/bucket-list-for-josh/cl/s?utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&utm_content=amp20_t1&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link&lang=en_GB
