Let’s hear it for the Dancers!

This year we were lucky to have dance sides from both near and far - some returning, some for the first time. So we need to thank Beltane, Berkshire Bedlam, Gwerin, Heaps, Kittiwake, Mr Wilkins Shilling, Pigsty, Theale Tattoo, and White Horse Morris for spending their time and expending their energy with us!

It was very, very hot this year at the Priddy Folk Festival but yet again the wonderful Dance sides kept on moving - in perfect formation and harmony obviously - throughout the weekend!

Two sides (Kittiwake and Pigsty) also accompanied the Faere Ladye Giant in her inaugural appearance and Procession - a first for the Festival in recent years.

And, lots of you danced too at Ceilidhs, Workshops and just when you fancied it!

We tried something new this year, and though we say it ourselves, we think it went Priddy Well….

Working with Giant finders extraordinary, Ruth and Amy, and joining forces with the children of Priddy School, we managed to get the guardian of the Fair Lady Well, the Faere Ladye herself to become manifest in the form of a ragged but multicoloured and flower bedecked GIANT!

Coaxing her from her hiding place with bells, whistles, violins and the occasional megaphone she deigned to visit our Festival and walk again around the Village Green to which she had brought pure water many, many years ago… So loud was the noise that the Mother Earth giant of Street, Gaia, popped up too!

To be joined by the people of Priddy and Festival visitors, waving flags and talismans made by local children, to the beat of sticks and sound of violins and jangle of bells and swish of hankies from drawn in musicians and Morris Sides. All to circumnavigate the Green in a watery swirl - despite the beating sun - and to sing together the Faere Ladye song that tells her history and points to a brighter future….

And hopefully good fun was had by all!

There are so many people to thank for making this magic happen, from the School of Saint Laurence at Priddy and Weston, to the Lost Giants themselves, the Gardening Club of Priddy to the musicians of Pill, the Champion Town crier of Chard to the story teller of Glastonbury, not to mention the Kittiwake and Pigsty Morris sides hailing from Bristol and the bearer of the Gert Wurm of Somerset having a break from all that dancing with Beltane!

The Faere Ladye has been taken away now, to a dark and distant cave (courtesy of a Pick Up truck) but who knows, if we all wish hard enough, she may appear again next year on a day that should forever be called Fair Lady day!

We woke up (maybe a bit later than usual…) and…

You’d all gone!

So what was it like? Hit us up in our feedback survey - the good the bad…etc!

Obviously we hope you’ll be ticking the good box mainly but let’s us know what we could do better - which acts you liked and who you’d like to see again next year!

The survey covers everything - so the music, the dance, the children’s activities, the food, the traders, the ambience!

Thanks again for coming - it wouldn’t happen without you!

And see you all next year!
