Eight years ago, a farmer's wife called Sophie saw me making a few bubbles at a local community event and enthusiastically said she needed me at her Pumpkin Patch. I'd never done big scale bubbles before but my life was on a new path so I thought 'why not?!'
From this seed Enchanted Bubbles grew and year after year, I have returned to Rogate Pumpkin Patch as the Bubble Witch, bringing joy and wonder to many!
However, over the years, my body has started to gently (and at times not so gently) remind me I'm not getting any younger and standing out in all weathers takes a little bit more of a toll on my joints each year.
Every year I say , 'ah, I'm not sure I can do that again' but I find myself longing to return as there really is something magical about Rogate for me.
It's starts with a beautiful drive there and then the breathtaking views of the hills when I pull up in the carpark. I love the atmosphere, the displays, getting excited when I spot a new feature. I love the welcome from familiar faces who I see but once a year. I love the design team who work tirelessly to create fun activities and magical scenes. I love the maintenance crew who clean and reset the site every day so that it's fresh for each new visitor. I love the face painters who have embraced my daughter and ignited a spark in her. I love the food vendors and coffee stops offering an amazing selection for us vegans, making my son so very happy!
I have loved working with many friends who have supported me to run the Bubble Circle over the years - Grace, Indi, Melissa , Cara- Mai, Lucas, Samantha, Bella, and my children Fraser and Wendy. (And I can't forget my husband Tim who keeps everything at home ticking over whilst I'm working such long stretches).
And most of all I've loved seeing families making magical memories across the patch and it's been a privilege to be part of that.
With sadness in my heart though, I know it's time for me to reclaim October for my health and for my family so I can make new memories with my tween and teenage children before they get too old to hang out with mum!
This is truly the hardest job I've ever chosen to leave but I know it's the right time to say farewell!
Enchanted Bubbles will continue but next year, October will be all about rest and family time.
So thank you Sophie for believing in me and embracing me into the Rogate Pumpkin Patch family for all these years. I am forever grateful and will look forward to returning as a visitor next year! ππ§‘
