🖤 FUNERAL FACT OF THE DAY 🖤

Have you ever wondered why we traditionally wear black to a funeral?

Black has been associated with mourning for centuries, but in Britain the tradition became particularly prominent during the Victorian era.

When Prince Albert died in 1861, Queen Victoria was devastated. She entered deep mourning and continued to wear black for the remaining 40 years of her life, until her death in 1901.

During Victorian times, mourning wasn't simply about wearing black. There were detailed social customs surrounding what you wore, which fabrics were appropriate and even how long mourning dress should continue, depending on your relationship to the person who had died.

Today, things are very different.

Many families still choose traditional black as a mark of respect, while others specifically ask mourners to wear bright colours, a favourite colour, a football shirt or something that represents the personality of their loved one.

So here’s today’s talking point…

A memory which popped up, It was such a achievement for me passing my qualification in funeral arranging whilst working at Maddock funeral home.
The releif I felt receiving the message, I think I burst into tears lol 😹

⚜️ TALKING POINT OF THE DAY ⚜️
Did you know there’s a reason we traditionally carry a coffin feet first — and that there’s a fascinating exception?

It’s something many of us will have seen at a funeral without ever really thinking about it.
Traditionally, when a coffin is carried into church, the person is taken in feet first, so that they are facing towards the altar.

But here’s the interesting part…

Traditionally, a priest or member of the clergy may be carried in the opposite way — head first.
The symbolism behind this old tradition is that the priest remains facing their congregation, just as they would have done throughout their ministry.

It’s one of those little funeral customs that has been passed down through generations, and yet many people have never heard of it.
