It’s always lovely to have time for coffee and cake between appointments and better still when there is also time to collect a book from Throne of Books on the way. If you find yourself in I can definitely recommend the Christmas Cake with cheese - Wensleydale of course

Our final challenge from is asking What we would hope for in 2025?
It would be incredible to think that 2025 we could see legal Humanist Marriages which would bring us up to date with Scotland, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey.
Not only would this enable our fabulous couples to avoid the “legal bit”at the registry office, which is only around £48 by the way but is never advertised as such by the Councils - sorry, rant over but to legally recognise Humanist Weddings would better reflect the demographic of the UK.
My other wish for 2025 would be to increase death literacy so that people are more aware of their options, not solely about end of life care but also about funeral choices. As with weddings there are a myriad of different ways to celebrate or grieve a death and I am passionate about making those options more widely known so watch this space in 2025, changes are on their way. Thank you Katie for setting the challenges, they have been fun

Life as a celebrants dog is about being flexible, sleep whilst they’re writing, be cute when meeting new people, don’t complain (too much) if they have a ceremony later in the afternoon and supper is delayed … and love Mondays in the dog field.
I prefer the first photo but the other one made her laugh apparently the outtake is me showing my quirky side, luv and wuffs Walter ❤️.

A fab trip outside of the Quirky Homestead this weekend as I travelled with my daughter to collect her gorgeous new pup, Aslan. Only 10 weeks old but weighing in at a whopping 18kg, (2st 8lbs in old money) he is going to be a big lad, even for an Irish Wolfhound ❤️

A great day in Glasgow yesterday at with Humanist Society Scotland , lots of friends old and new . Discussions on AI, conversion practices, online misinformation and assisted dying.
Plus there were Tunnocks Caramel Wafers in the Clayton Hotel rooms - what’s not to love?

When you are leading the funeral for a lovely lady whose favourite colour was green, there is always time to re-lace the Doc Martens and find the green.

Isn't life expensive at the moment ?! Even the price of a Freddo - the universal barometer of inflation - currently 25p, is expected to rise to 36p by the end of the year !
And with the average cost of a wedding currently sitting at £20,775 without the additional costs of an engagement ring or a honeymoon (Bridebook UK Wedding Report 2024) getting married can be a significant investment in more ways than one.
When chatting to couples they are increasingly either delaying or thinking long and hard about the financial implications of getting married BUT it doesn't have to be that way.
The cost of the venue can be significant BUT one of the many joys of a Humanist Wedding is the ability to get married anywhere (with the landowners consent), you can exchange vows in a field, on a beach or even at the bottom of your garden - I love an outdoor wedding! - which can instantly reduce the cost of your special day whilst also creating a unique, personal and memorable space for your ceremony - definitely food for thought.

Weddings can be a major expense. One of the wonderful things about a humanist wedding is that it allows couples to shape the ceremony to fit you, here are 5 tips will help you to plan an affordable wedding which is right for you as a couple.

Spent an interesting day at the NEC this week for Spring Fair - outside of Quirky Ceremonies Mr Q and I have an independent gift shop in Kirkby Stephen.
I was obviously delighted that the carpet had been laid to match the Quirky colours and had to take a photo ! I’m wearing my oldest, comfiest Dr Martens to save my feet from pain and blisters- we walked miles !!
Interesting to see the card companies finally catching up with wedding diversity and individuality, it’s taking a while but there are glimmers….
Q. What is going to be huge this year for celebrations ?
A. Balloons 🎈 Balloons are huge this year in incredible colours and shapes, if balloons are your thing the sky really is the limit 🩷x
