why oh why? Councils fear losing money to celebrants because we are able to offer a wider range of options for couples, but they are agressively seeking to dampen us down, yet they are unable to offer interfaith ceremonies or anything with a spiritual twist. How is that a great choice? And very few registrars relish speaking in public or have the creativity at their fingertips.

This is VERY wrong and deliberately misleading from a Government organisation! 🤬. I don’t think I can respond this this any better than our very own Michelle Taylor has.
I will just add though, did you know that Independent Celebrants don’t just conduct ceremonies for couples, we often conduct commitment ceremonies for polyamorous relationships too - registrars can’t do that either!!

ARE SURREY REGISTRATION SERVICES feeling threatened ?
Whilst the registration service HAS to carry out the legal marriage registration in England and Wales , which all couples are legally entitled to, there is no requirement whatsoever for you to have the registrars conduct your wedding ceremony.
please can your registration services explain this BLATANT attempt to sabotage independent celebrants?
Yes you have to conduct the legal registration, but what we offer is choice !
Will you allow couples religious content? … no you aren’t allowed to!
We can

Will you allow couples to totally theme their ceremony and even dress to match the theme ?
No

Will you spend hours speaking to couples and hours crafting a beautiful ceremony?
No you can’t , but we can !

Will you stick around when one person is running late ?
No because you have to rush off for the next job !

Will you stop using post it notes for insert name here?
Probs not!

Will you always guarantee to get your couples names right ??
Clearly not!

Will you honour your marriers chosen pronouns and use the names they choose for their ceremony?
No… you can’t!
But WE can!

There is room for registration services to perform ceremonies and celebrants to perform ceremonies that really honour the people we are celebrating!
Has it really come to this? Telling couples they can’t have simple registration of marriages and they don’t need a celebrant??

Maybe they don’t, but it IS THEIR CHOICE!
Stop pushing your agenda … we know it is all about money on your part!

First review from wedding ceremony in June which I picked up quite late on. It was a real collaboration between the bride and myself with me adding a few extra touches to bring some fun for the couple. Comments from guests were through the roof: they all thought I knew the couple really well, so job done!

A beautiful wedding in an open glade in Sussex. The confetti shot was something else! As ever, I love being a small, but essential part of somebody's big day. And when they tell me it was 'perfect' and 'exactly what they wanted' I consider that job done!
