We still have some spaces left on our upcoming FREE Helios Schools Workshop: Sun, Sustainability & Design.

Delivered by Biffa, this fun, hands-on workshops is perfect for KS1 and KS2 groups. The workshops allow pupils to work in teams to plan their own sustainable city then get creative by making their own solar-inspired sculptures using recycled materials.

The UK AIDS Quilt is on display in Wakefield from today!

Individual panels can be seen now at venues across the city and the district, with the full collection opening at Wakefield Exchange to the public tomorrow. All free.

Among the panels on view at and are newly added panels, seen publicly for the first time this week.

Some were made during the epidemic and only now finding their place in the collection, others newly made to commemorate someone loved. The Quilt now represents over 570 people.

There are also screenings of There is a Light That Never Goes Out (1995) - the rediscovered documentary about the Hyde Park display showing on the hour, every hour.

And tonight at 6.30pm there’s a panel discussion on the story of HIV in the UK and the making of the Quilt with speakers from the AIDS Memorial Quilt Partnership, ACT UP Leeds and the NHS.

The UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Display Opens Today at WX 🤍

Wakefield is the first city to welcome the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt outside of London, in partnership with UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Conservation Partnership.

The piece will be displayed from today until Sunday 7 June 2026.

All 43 blocks will be displayed at WX alongside the recently rediscovered documentary film There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, about the 1994 Hyde Park display of the Quilt.

Selected individual panels will also be on display in various locations around the district including: The Hepworth Wakefield, Theatre Royal Wakefield, The Art House Wakefield, Longboat Wakefield, Anglers Country Park, Pontefract Castle (official), Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Queen's Mill Castleford and Maurice Dobson Museum in Darfield, Barnsley.

Just a quick heads up to let you know that Fridays Stay & Play session will not be taking place on 5 June due to an exhibition.

However it will be back on as normal on Friday 12 June, 9:30 -11am, when the fabulous PAIR team will be on hand to support parents in building strong, positive bonds with their little ones.

There'll also be themed Stay & Play sessions as follows:

⚽Friday 12 June - Football inc. mini goals, soft balls, flags, and stickers!
🚲Friday 3 July - Balance & Bikes inc. balance beams, balance bikes and helmets, and more!
📖Friday 17 July - Story Trail - Find clues from a story hidden around WX

There are food and drink venues on site where you can purchase refreshments if you wish.
Come along and enjoy some quality time with your little people.
