We have a few places available on the upcoming Introduction to Block Printing three week course!

The course will cover the basics and history of block printing, looking at various tools and materials. Participants will print a repeating pattern ideal for wallpapers and interior fabrics, with a focus on creating and printing abstract patterns.

This is a perfect introduction to block printing for complete beginners and also great for those who might have some lino printing experience that are looking to develop repeating patterns.

Following an artist residency in 2024 in collaboration with The Art House and Yorkshire Sculpture Park we’re pleased to share that Jakob Rowlinson first UK institutional project, REVIVER, will be opening at The Art House on 18 July.

In addition to this solo exhibitionm Jakob will also be presenting ROTATOR, an installation in the main Centre at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Spanning across the two venues, this new body of work weaves together complex material histories, explores the ecology of local landscape, and continues the artist’s interest in q***ring the archive. Rowlinson merges the sacred and profane, drawing on religious and folkloric imagery such as angels, demons and green men, and combining them with contemporary q***r fashion and fe**sh references.

🗓️ REVIVER and ROTATOR both open Saturday 18 July, join us for an exclusive first look at REVIVER on Friday 17 July from 17:00-19:30.

We’re proud to be displaying a selection of panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt until Sunday 7 June.

Among them is a new quilt block on public display for the first time. This block includes eight new quilt panels created by William Hampson commemorating 43 individuals that were previously unrepresented within the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt.

The quilt gives us the opportunity to reflect on and honour the lives of those affected by the AIDS pandemic, and celebrate their resilience and courage. We hope you will join us to view these quilts in person, and visit partner venues across Wakefield to see the quilt in its entirety for the first time outside London.

To coincide with the exhibition we’re also hosting a printmaking and quilting activity on Sunday 7 June 10:30-15:00, the activity is free and you’re welcome to drop-in at any point throughout the session to collaborate with us on our own community quilt!
