Streaming has made music easier.

It never made it more exciting.

Back then, listening to an album started long before you heard the first song.

You had to go find it.

Maybe you drove across town to your favorite record store.

Maybe you spent twenty minutes standing in front of the bins trying to decide which album was worth your hard-earned money.

Then you brought it home like it was treasure.

You'd slide the record out carefully.

Read every word on the sleeve.

Study the artwork.

Memorize the lyrics.

And when the needle finally dropped, you weren't just hearing a collection of songs.

You were hearing something you'd invested time, money, and anticipation into.

Today, we have access to almost every song ever recorded in seconds.

Ironically, we've never spent less time with each one.

Sometimes having everything at your fingertips makes it easier to forget how special it felt when you had to choose just one album and live with it for a while.

I don't care what your status is, because those things can impress people from a distance, but they never tell the whole story.

The more I watch people, the more I realize the things we admire first are usually the least important. Money can be earned. Success can be lost. Nice things can be bought.

But character is different.

It shows up in the way you speak to someone who can't do anything for you. It shows up in the promises you keep when no one is watching. It shows up in the respect you give, not the respect you demand.

That's why some people look successful but leave everyone around them feeling drained. Others may have very little, yet people naturally trust them because their actions always match their words.

In the end, people won't remember what you owned nearly as much as they'll remember how you made them feel. And that's the kind of wealth that can't be bought.
