September always feels like a little reset.

The madness of the summer wedding season starts to settle as we head into Autumn weddings.

We have time to look back.

To celebrate the couples we’ve worked with.

To thank the incredible suppliers we’ve worked alongside.

And to start looking ahead.

2027 is already shaping up to be another wonderful year, and with Wendy, Jules and Jayne joining me, we’re excited to be able to support even more couples with their Cornwall weddings.

So if you’re newly engaged and staring at a Pinterest board wondering where on earth to begin…

You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Can I say something slightly controversial?..........The cheapest wedding planner isn’t always the cheapest option.

When you’re planning a wedding, I completely understand why price matters. It’s a huge investment. You should absolutely compare quotes.

But don’t just compare the number at the bottom. Compare what you’re actually getting for that number....

How much experience do they have?

How many meetings are included?

Are they actually involved in the months leading up to your wedding?

Do they contact and brief your suppliers?

Do they create a detailed running order?

Do they attend a venue meeting?

Do they visit the venue beforehand?

How many hours are they there on the wedding day?

Is it one person or a team?

What happens if something goes wrong?

Do they have someone else who can step in if they’re ill?

And perhaps most importantly…

How much responsibility are they actually taking away from you?

There is a reason experienced planners charge more. You’re not simply paying someone to turn up with a clipboard on the morning of your wedding. You’re paying for years of experience.

You’re paying for relationships with suppliers.

You’re paying for knowing what questions to ask before there’s a problem.

You’re paying for someone who has seen things go wrong and knows how to fix them.

You’re paying for preparation.

You’re paying for calm.

And you’re paying for the ability to walk into your wedding day knowing that someone else has got it.

Of course, everyone’s budget is different, and there are some fantastic planners working at different price points.

But when you’re comparing quotes, make sure you’re comparing like for like.

Sometimes the cheapest quote isn’t actually the best value.

And your wedding day isn’t really the place I’d recommend learning on the job.

When I look back at this year’s weddings at Boconnion, I feel incredibly proud of how far this little corner of Cornwall has come.

I first established Boconnion as a wedding venue back in 2020 with owner Rob. What started as a vision has grown year after year into a place where couples come from all over the world!

We’ve had glorious heatwaves, blazing sunshine, long evenings in the garden… and, of course, some very Cornish rain!

Each couple brings something completely different to Boconnion, and I love seeing how they make the estate their own. What makes me particularly proud this year is how much the team has grown alongside the venue.

As Boconnion has grown, so has the level of planning, experience and support behind every wedding. We now have a wonderful team (more to come on this soon...), and that means we can give our couples an even more polished, seamless experience from their very first planning meeting through to the last dance.

And then there’s 2027…

Almost every weekend is already booked!

To think back to 2020 and where we started, and then look at the calendar for 2027, is quite something.

Back in June we travelled out of Cornwall to Llandelio, Wales, for the most gorgeous little church, tucked away in the Welsh countryside. It was particularly special because it was the very last wedding the church would host before closing its doors.

From there, guests made their way to the grandparents’ home, where the marquee reception was held in the garden — a place with so much family history and meaning.

It was the home where Lloyd had grown up, making the setting for their celebration feel incredibly personal.

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel like part of the family.

There was such a genuine appreciation for everyone involved in making the day happen, and that warmth extended to the entire supplier team.

What made it even more special was that the suppliers were completely new to us. We’d never worked together before, but everyone pulled together brilliantly.

You can have the most detailed running order, the most carefully considered logistics and the most beautiful vision — but ultimately, weddings are about people.

When a team of suppliers communicates, supports one another and works together towards the same goal, you can feel it.

There was laughter, family, incredible food, plenty of celebrating and that wonderful sense that everyone in the marquee was exactly where they were supposed to be.

Manon & Lloyd, thank you for welcoming us so warmly and trusting us with such a special day.

What a wedding. What a family. What a privilege..... and there's still so much to share on this one!

The part of wedding planning you don’t see…

The stunning photographs show the flowers, the tables, the ch*****ne and the happy couple.

They don’t show:

47 x supplier emails
The 7am phone calls
Moving the entire drinks reception because the wind has blown the glasses down!
Chasing a delivery
Moving furniture
Defusing family emotions
Dealing with broken electrics so you have power in your marquee

And then…

The doors open.

The music starts.

The couple walk in.

And suddenly, all the chaos disappears.

THAT'S the magic of a wedding planner.

NEWLY ENGAGED? Save this one!

One of the biggest mistakes I see couples make is booking suppliers in whatever order they happen to find them.

There actually IS a sensible order.

Start with:

Venue
Planner/coordinator
Photographer & videographer
Caterer
Florist & styling
Entertainment
Hair & make-up
Stationery & finishing touches

Of course, every wedding is different — but your venue and key suppliers will determine so many of the decisions that come afterwards.

And please don’t feel like you need to book everything immediately.

Take a breath!

Enjoy being engaged.

Create your vision first, then start booking the pieces that bring it to life.

What a season! (and we haven't finihsed yet!)

The last few months have been a complete whirlwind of beautiful weddings, early mornings, late nights, hundreds of emails, countless cups of coffee … and so many wonderful couples.

I’ve been a little quieter on here than usual because, quite honestly, I’ve been too busy making weddings happen!

From anniversary celebrations to huge marquee weddings, from Cornwall sunshine to the inevitable Cornish rain, this season has reminded me exactly why I love what I do.

So September is all about looking back at some of the beautiful weddings we’ve been lucky enough to be part of, sharing a little behind the scenes and, of course, helping all of you newly engaged couples with plenty of planning advice.
