A wedding trend I REALLY hope continues…

Less “what’s the wedding trend this year?”

More:

“What do WE actually like?”

I’m seeing couples move away from weddings that feel overly styled and towards celebrations that feel much more personal.

More colour.

More personality.

More interesting food.

More relaxed dining.

More unusual entertainment.

More doing things their own way.

And honestly?

I’m here for it.

Your wedding doesn’t need to look like everyone else’s wedding on Instagram.

You can have the beautiful flowers AND the disco.

The elegant tables AND the festival-style food.

The formal ceremony AND the tequila shots.

There are no wedding police!

Make the decisions that make sense for you.

That’s the trend worth keeping.

One of my favourite things about a wedding isn’t necessarily the big wow moment.

It’s the little things.

The things that make guests say:

“Oh, this is SO them.”

A favourite drink.

A handwritten note.

Family photos.

A ridiculous inside joke.

A favourite song playing as everyone walks into dinner.

Something borrowed from Nan.

Something completely unexpected.

You don’t need 132 personalised details to make a wedding personal.

In fact, I’d argue the opposite.

Choose a handful of things that actually mean something to you and do those really well.

Your wedding doesn’t need to look like Pinterest.

It needs to feel like you two. 🤍

And that’s always going to be a better look.

A&C spent time framing images of family that were sat at each table, or family no longer with them to ensure they still felt part of their day. It was effortlessly beautiful and created such a personal wedding breakfast for their marquee wedding.

I love pretty weddings. Obviously I do.

But I’m not sure anyone should hire a wedding planner simply because they have a pretty Instagram account. Funnily enough, this month I have chatted to many couples all looking for assistance for their wedding. When I'm talking to my couples I'm not boasting how great my grid looks!

Your wedding planner needs to know a lot more than what’s currently trending.

They need to understand the bigger picture. People, timings, suppliers, logistics, catering, venues, weather, budgets and pressure.

They need to be able to look at a wedding and see the 47 things that need to happen before the couple even walk down the aisle.

And when something inevitably doesn’t go according to plan?

They need to have enough experience to think:

“Right. That’s fine. Here’s what we’re going to do.”

Not:

“Oh God. I’ve never had this happen before.”

That’s the difference experience makes.

And honestly?

I’d take the planner who’s coordinated hundreds of moving parts over the planner who’s mastered the latest Instagram trend every single time.

The biggest mistake couples make when searching for their wedding venue?

Falling in love with the venue before working out whether it actually works for the wedding they want. It’s very easy to see a gorgeous barn, a beautiful view or a dreamy walled garden and think THAT’S IT.

But before you book, ask:

What is the realistic total cost?
How many guests can you comfortably accommodate?
Who is catering — and are there restrictions?
Can you bring your own drinks?
Where will everyone stay?
What happens if you need a marquee?
Is there enough parking?
Are there noise restrictions?
What happens if the weather does what it usually does in Cornwall?

A venue can look perfect on Instagram and still be completely wrong for your plans.

Your venue should work for your wedding — not the other way around.

This is exactly why I offer venue searches for couples who want someone to do the digging, questioning and shortlisting for them.

Because finding a venue is easy.

Finding the right one is the clever bit.

A pretty Instagram feed doesn’t plan a wedding. Experience does.

There are lots of wedding planners out there. And there are lots of beautiful Instagram feeds. But when you’re spending tens of thousands of pounds on your wedding, I think it’s worth asking a slightly different question:

How much actual experience does your planner have?

Because wedding planning isn’t just mood boards, colour palettes and knowing what’s currently “on trend”.

It’s knowing what happens when the marquee team is running late.

It’s spotting that the timings on a running order simply won’t work.

It’s knowing which supplier needs chasing three weeks before the wedding — and which one absolutely does not.

It’s knowing how long dinner actually takes to serve 120 people.

It’s knowing where a wedding can quietly start to unravel before the couple have even noticed there’s a problem.

And, perhaps most importantly, it’s knowing what doesn’t need to become a problem in the first place.

That comes from experience.

I’ve worked in weddings, hospitality and events for over 20 years. I’ve seen the beautiful, the chaotic, the unexpected and everything in between.

So when you book me, you’re not just getting someone to make a nice plan.

You’re getting someone who has spent years learning how to make that plan actually work.

Because when your wedding day arrives, experience is worth far more than an Instagram trend.

THE PART PEOPLE DON’T SEE

The bit of wedding planning you don’t see on Instagram…

The emails.

The spreadsheets.

The phone calls.

The supplier meetings.

The floorplans.

The weather plans.

The contingency plans for the contingency plans. 😂

The “just checking…” emails.

The “can you confirm…” emails.

The “this has changed, so we now need to…” emails.

The running order that gets changed approximately 17 times.

And all the tiny logistical details that nobody notices when they’re done properly.

That’s actually one of my favourite parts of the job.

Because a wedding isn’t just about how beautiful it looks.

It has to WORK.

Guests need to know where they’re going.

Suppliers need to know when they’re arriving.

The food needs to come out at the right time.

The band needs to know when they’re playing.

The ceremony needs to flow into the drinks reception.

And you need to be able to enjoy the whole bloody thing without worrying about any of it.

Pretty is important.

But logistics are everything.

THE “WHERE DO WE EVEN START?” COUPLE

If you’ve recently got engaged and your first thought was:

“Brilliant. Now what?” 😂

We work out what matters most to you.

Then we make a plan.

Simple.

No unnecessary fuss. No Pinterest pressure. No spending money just because someone on Instagram told you that you need it.

Why a marquee site visit matters.

Today took me to windy Polzeath to meet with the brilliant team at Absolute Canvas — and yes, the Cornish weather decided to make its presence felt!

It might look like a simple case of putting a marquee on a piece of grass, but there is so much more to getting a marquee wedding right.

A proper site visit means looking at the access for the marquee team, the ground, levels, wind exposure, vehicle access, power, catering access, toilets, bar positioning, guest flow, where suppliers will work and, importantly, how the whole thing will actually function on the wedding day.

And then there are the things you simply can’t see on a Pinterest board.

Where will the sun be?

What happens if the wind picks up?
Can the caterers get their equipment where they need it?

Where does the dance floor sit?

Is there enough space for everything you want — without it feeling crammed?

These are the details that make the difference between a marquee that looks beautiful and a marquee wedding that works beautifully.

I love this part of the planning process because it’s where the ideas start becoming real. Standing on the site, talking through the logistics with experienced suppliers and working out the best solution before the wedding day means fewer surprises later.

I can tell you — the boring logistical conversations are often the ones that save your wedding day. 😉

2027 COUPLES… THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!

If you’re getting married next year, you’re probably at one of two stages:

A) “We have everything booked and I’m feeling smug.” 😂

or…

B) “We have a Pinterest board, a venue and absolutely no idea what happens next.”

Both are fine.

But this is the point in the planning process where the detail starts to matter.

Timelines need building. Suppliers need confirming. Guest logistics need thinking about. Menus, transport, accommodation, stationery, floorplans, set-up, pack-down…

And if you’re having a marquee wedding, there’s a LOT more logistics involved than simply putting up a tent.

This is the stuff I LOVE.

The spreadsheets. The running orders. The supplier coordination. The problem solving. Making sure everyone knows where they need to be and when.

So if you’re getting married in 2027 and you’re starting to feel like the list is getting longer rather than shorter…

You don’t necessarily need another supplier.

You might just need a planner. 😉
