Countless conversations.
Many stories.
One very grateful celebrant.

May has been a month of supporting families through loss, helping couples prepare for marriage, visiting people in their homes, sharing cups of tea around kitchen tables, writing ceremonies, and standing in front of gathered loved ones to tell stories that matter.

There have been funerals, wedding planning meetings, family visits, enquiries, ceremony writing, and yesterday I had the pleasure of ending the month with a beautiful baby naming ceremony – a lovely reminder that this work takes me through every stage of life.

I’ve also had the privilege of working alongside some wonderful people this month. Funeral directors, chapel attendants, venue teams, photographers, florists, musicians, carers, care home staff, hospice teams, caterers, registrars and many others who work tirelessly behind the scenes. Families may not always see everything that goes on, but I do, and I’m grateful for every person who helps make these important moments possible.

No two days are ever the same. No two stories are ever the same.

And that’s exactly why I love what I do.

As one month closes and another begins, I’m looking forward to more ceremonies, more conversations, and more opportunities to support people through life’s biggest moments.

Sometimes, after a service, the messages that arrive later that evening stay with you long after the day itself is over.

Yesterday, I received messages from a family whose mum’s funeral I had the privilege of leading. They told me the service was “outstanding,” that her story had been told “perfectly,” and that it was a “perfect send off” for their wee mammy.

They also said:
“Everyone commented that the service was amazing.”
“I will never forget this day.”
“You are amazing at your job and deserve recognition.”

Those words mean more than people probably realise.

As celebrants, we stand in some of life’s biggest moments — and for me, it has never been about simply conducting a ceremony. It is about listening carefully, carrying someone’s story with care, and creating something that feels true to the person being remembered.

When a family feel seen, heard, comforted, and proud of the tribute given to someone they love… that matters.

I am so grateful to every family who places their trust in my hands during such important moments. ❤️

Sometimes people think a celebrant’s job is mostly about standing at the front and speaking.

But the real work happens long before that moment.

It’s the late-night voice notes from families trying to find the right words.
The nervous couples worrying whether everyone will look at them walking down the aisle.
The stories shared through tears, laughter, cups of tea, and “I’ve never told anyone this before…”

It’s creating a space where people feel safe enough to be real.

That’s the part of this work that matters most to me.

Not perfection.
Not performance.

Just making sure people feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for during some of the biggest moments of their lives.
