❤️ A little bit of awareness from a mum who has been there with it being RSV awareness month …
Firstly, I am no medical professional!!
This isn’t my usual kind of post, but I feel like it’s something worth talking about, especially with so many babies and young children around.
When my little boy was just 5 months old, he caught RSV. What started as what seemed like a normal cold became much more serious, and he ended up in hospital because of his breathing and other symptoms.
It was honestly one of the scariest experiences I’ve ever been through as a mum. 💔
Thankfully, he got the treatment he needed at Royal Glamorgan and came home nearly a week later, but his breathing has continued to be something we’ve had to be mindful of, and he now suffers with asthma.
I think sometimes we hear “RSV” and think it’s just another childhood virus, but whilst RSV is very common and most children recover without serious problems, it can be much more serious for babies, particularly very young babies.
So I just wanted to use my little business page to say:
❤️ Keep an eye on those little ones
❤️ Don’t be afraid to seek medical advice if you’re worried
❤️ Trust your gut as a parent
❤️ And remember that you know your baby better than anyone
If your little one is struggling to breathe, becoming unusually sleepy, having pauses in their breathing, sucking in at the ribs and often the neck too, or their lips/skin are turning pale, blue or grey, mottled skin, seek urgent medical help.
And if you’re expecting a baby, it’s also worth speaking to your maternity team about the RSV vaccine, which is offered on the NHS from 28 weeks of pregnancy to help protect babies during their first months of life. This wasn’t available when I was pregnant on William, but I did have it when I was pregnant on Elara this year, so far she’s had a mild cough which didn’t grow into anything like it did with William!
I’m not sharing this to scare anyone — just because if sharing our experience makes even one parent recognise that their baby needs help, then it’s worth sharing. ❤️

Love,
A mum who never forgets how scary that hospital journey was. 🫶🏼
