Thank you to everyone that came to our Bandstand Exhibition!

It was a great reminder of how far our Todmorden Bandstand has come, from its dilapidated beginnings when Todmorden Town Council first took it on, to the glory of its post-renovation! And to delve even further back into its heritage, and see what it has looked like through the years.

If you didn't get a chance to complete our Bandstand Survey on the day, we'd really appreciate it if you could let us know your thoughts now!
Just fill out this form: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/W9ARvD4bUF

Thanks to Buttress Architects for designing the brilliant information boards for the exhibition, and bringing along the 3D digital model of the dilapidated Bandstand (hopefully everyone got a chance to have a play with that!)
We're really grateful to everyone that contributed heritage photos - Todmorden Antiquarian Society, Pennine Horizons Digital Archive, Daniel Birch and the Todmorden Album, Touch of Brass, the late Peter Hazeldine (original member of the 'Save Our Bandstand' campaign).
It was great to be able to include videos from Scott van der Zanden Photography, photos from Kane Clemens, , Dave Walker, .uk, and some fantastic drone footage courtesy of JA Live!

And of course the renovation wouldn't have been possible without the Bandstand being adopted as one of the lead projects for the Todmorden Town Deal, and with the generous funding and support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund (thank you if you are a National Lottery player!).

If you missed the exhibition, much of the material will be available to view on the Bandstand website: https://todbandstand.org/bandstand-exhibition-success/

On the website you can also register your interest in becoming a volunteer, sign up to be a member of the Todmorden Bandstand Group, or even hire the Bandstand to put on your own event!

Come along and join us for a Soundwalk through Centre Vale Park - hear stories about Todmorden as told by local people!

Todmorden Town Council has worked with students from Todmorden High School to create the 'Soundwalk through Todmorden's Heritage' - young people chose the topics, designed the questions, and interviewed local people aged from 12 - 82!

These stories have been formed into a narrative, with audio placed around Centre Vale Park in Todmorden, that can be listened to through the Echoes app, and which automatically plays as you walk into the spaces.

We are offering two sessions on Tuesday 8th of September - either 2pm - 3pm or 3pm - 4pm.
Please book onto your preferred session: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/soundwalk-through-todmordens-heritage-tickets-1999499705444

The Soundwalk itself lasts about 30 minutes, with some slight uphill, and we will end at the Pavilion for a cuppa.

📆Tuesday 8th September
⏰2 - 3
⏰3 - 4
📍Todmorden Pavilion, Centre Vale Park

These sessions are primarily aimed at people that do not have a smartphone and/or headphones, as the Soundwalk is now live and can be listened to independently by anyone wit a smart phone. These sessions we will be providing you with a smart phone and headphones on the day.
However if you want to join us anyway with your own equipment, please just email [email protected] and we can add you to the list!

This project wouldn't have been possible without grant funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the Todmorden Bandstand renovation - so a huge thank you to National Lottery players !

Thank you to all the young people involved in the project, including Asli who designed the poster and Harry who created the brilliant illustrations for the flier! And to all the interviewees who gave up their time to be interviewed and told their stories.

Keep an ear out for the Todmorden Hippodrome, Christmas Eve Tractor Run, Todmorden Bandstand, Integrate Todmorden, Jacko the monkey and more!

🎺Another great afternoon of music at Brass in the Park!

To their credit people did not let the forecast of heavy rain and thunder put them off. There was a great turn out and in the end the afternoon was mostly fine. Lucky! 😊🍀

It was a pleasure to welcome back the wonderful Todmorden Community Brass Band for their second post-renovation appearance at the bandstand.

The fantastic Brazen Brass Band delivered a high-energy, crowd-pleasing set entirely made up of very clever arrangements of pop classics by female artists. Here they are paying tribute to the late great Dolly Parton. Wonderful ❤️

Big thanks to:

The organisers and volunteers from Todmorden Learning Centre/Seasons of Celebration and Todmorden Town Deal
Everyone who turned out and enjoyed the music
Todmorden Town Council
Arts Council England

This was the last of the three ‘Seasons of Celebration’ concerts at the bandstand but there will be more great events at other venues in the town over the coming months. There will also be more events at the bandstand this year - next up, Electronic Music Open Mic on 13th September!

See you in the park!

We would like to invite you to an exhibition celebrating all the love and work that has gone into renovating the Todmorden Bandstand!

From the campaign to save it, through the design process and then the re-build! Come and see behind-the-scene photos of the state the Bandstand was in before renovation, and play around with a digital 3D model.

There will be the opportunity to chat to Buttress Architects who did a fantastic job on the design, and listen to audio recordings from some of the people involved in the ‘Save Our Bandstand’ campaign, as well as people’s memories of the Bandstand over the years.

It will also be the first chance to listen to people’s stories of Todmorden, in the ‘Soundwalk Through Todmorden’s Heritage’ that has been a brilliant collaborative project between Todmorden High School, us at Todmorden Town Council, and local people!

📆Saturday 29th of August
⏰11 – 5:30
📍 Pavilion, Centre Vale Park

The renovation of the Bandstand was made possible thanks to the Todmorden Town Deal, and with generous funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund (thank you to you if you are a National Lottery player!), which also allowed us to create the Soundwalk and this exhibition!

Hopefully everyone has made it down to the Todmorden Bandstand for one of the fantastic events that have been put on since it's re-launch – we’ve got several more coming up over Summer so keep your eye out for those!

THIS SATURDAY we are bringing you an exhibition celebrating the fantastic Todmorden Bandstand!

📆Saturday 29th of August
⏰11 - 5:30pm
📍Todmorden Pavilion, Centre Vale Park

We will be unveiling the Soundwalk ('Soundwalk Through Todmorden's Heritage') that we have been working on with students from Todmorden High School - come along and be the first to hear stories about Todmorden from local people, and listen to what it means to be part of the community here.

There will be the opportunity to look at a 3D digital model inside and out of the Bandstand pre-renovation, and get some behind-the-scenes looks at the work that has gone into it! Buttress Architects will be there to answer any questions you have on the design and re-build.

We will be showing you videos of the Bandstand in action, so if you missed the Bandstand Re-launch party come and watch the video created by van der Zanden Photography! Along with some interviews from the voluntary Todmorden Bandstand Group on the campaign to save it.

There will also be archive materials from the 'Save Our Bandstand' campaign over the years, so you can see the journey it has been through...

And don't forget, the Bandstand will be showcasing its full glory with Brass in the Park - Free concert with Brazen Brass and Todmorden Brass Band from 2 - 5, so get along to that too to see it brought to life!

None of this would have been possible without the Bandstand being adopted as one of the Todmorden Town Deal projects, with significant funding and support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund (thank you to National Lottery players!). The National Lottery Heritage Fund also funded this exhibition, and the Soundwalk project, and many other aspects of community engagement along the way (read more about that in the exhibition!).

Huge thank you to the Todmorden Bandstand group, many of which kickstarted the process to save the bandstand, and who now support the running of events by volunteering their time and effort.

If you would like to get involved with the Todmorden Bandstand, either through becoming a member or volunteering, you can get more information through the Bandstand website: https://todbandstand.org/getting-involved/
