Our lovely friends over at Thornbury Arts Festival have got some incredible acts coming to town!
Here's some information from the organisers:
We kick off on Friday 26th September with Swing from Paris. This all-string jazz quartet of violin, guitars and double bass draws their inspiration from the music of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Their pieces range from Benny Goodman to Django Reinhardt. Stephane Grappelli and Astor Piazolla, the maestro of tango. The band have been delighting audiences with their Parisian flavoured jazz for over 15 years. Come and see them at Christ the King Church Hall, Castle Street, Thornbury.
From jazz to theatre comedy and the acclaimed Badapple Theatre Company who are giving a performance of “Crumbs”. This follows the life and times of an ex-TV baking show host who has recently been ‘let go’ from a high profile programme. Sounds weirdly familiar but not based on real life… Our protagonist is trying to reinvent herself and the show follows the trips and slips in her live baking show - and yes, live baking does go on in this original and humorous performance. For one night only: on Saturday 27th September 7:30 pm at Christ the King Church Hall.
James Dowdeswell, is a local lad but back to entertain Thornbury after headlining comedy clubs around the country and appearing on numerous TV shows. His comedy is erudite, off-the-cuff and clean, and having grown up in the Anchor, Oldbury, his comedy occasionally touches on the subject of beer, wine and spirits. (Drinks will be served in the bar by Festival staff on this night and others, by the way…). Come and see James on Friday 3rd October 7:30 at Christ the King Church Hall.
Nell Gwynne and King Charles ll provide a not so regal end to our Festival on Saturday 4th October 7:30 at St Mary’s Church, Thornbury. Lesley Smith, along with her husband, give a costumed portrayal of the “Merrie Monarch” and his favourite. However, Nell also represented a victory for English womanhood as you will learn. Crowned after years of Cromwellian austerity, Charles wanted to restore stability and a bit a joy to England, leading by example. Not suitable for the under-18s, but decency is maintained!
Note: the traditional Sunday Walk, is fully booked.
