Do you remember when Telford played host to two Davis Cup ties in the 1980s?

The first match in 1984 sadly saw the Great Britain team lose 2-3 to Italy. The competition returned to Telford in March 1986 and was sponsored by the NEC Corporation. Competing for the Great Britain team were John Lloyd, Jeremy Bates, Colin Dowdeswell and Nick Fulwood*. The Spanish team consisted of Sergio Casal and Emilio Sanchez.

This time team GB came out on top defeating Spain 4-1.

Team GB then went on to play Australia at the quarter finals in Wimbledon in July, but sadly lost 1-4. Australia would go on to win the Davis Cup in December after beating Sweden 3-2 in the final.

*Fulwood was selected for the team but didn't take part in any of the Telford matches.

Did you know that before we were a business events venue we were a tennis and racquet centre?

Built in 1983, the centre was officially opened by three-times Wimbledon Men's Champion John McEnroe.

From 1983 up until the early 2000s, the centre hosted many tennis tournaments including two Davis Cup ties.

Telford Walk Week has been taking place across our Borough this week.

The event aims to encourage local people, and visitors, to discover new walking routes and explore the hidden gems and heritage of Telford.

🥾 Telford Town Park: this 450 acre park is next door to our venue and is perfect for enjoying a breath of fresh air before, during or after your event.

🥾 The Wrekin: Just a short drive from TIC this 1,300 foot hill offers fantastic views across 17 counties. This is ideal for energetic walkers, with walking shoes recommended.

🥾 The Silkin Way: This 14 mile walking route is a great way to explore Telford on foot. The route takes in Telford Town Park and finishes in Coalport.

🌳Telford awarded Tree Cities of the World status for the 4th year in a row 🌳

We were delighted to hear that Telford has recently achieved this award again as it is a fantastic recognition of the Borough's commitment to investing in green spaces through the planting and conservation of millions of trees.

Tree canopy cover is estimated at almost 20 per cent and includes the 450 acres of Telford Town Park, which sits adjacent to our venue, as well as woodlands, community orchards and privately owned gardens.
