A wedding crowd with this much energy before the party had even started? Yes please 😂

But before the dance floor properly kicked off, there was one very important moment to give its spotlight: the first dance.

A calm, confident introduction, the right words, the right timing, and then stepping back so the couple can have the room to themselves.

And what a first dance it was. A lovely routine, a perfect lift, and a room full of people absolutely loving it 🥹

Hosting a wedding is never about talking for the sake of it. It’s about reading the room, setting the tone, and making the big moments feel properly special.

There’s nothing quite like the buzz of a perfectly timed transition.

This was me DJing and hosting the catwalk at The Big South West Wedding Fair, moving from the bridalwear section into menswear.

As the bridalwear models finished their moment, I mixed in the intro beat for the next section, picked up the mic, introduced the menswear models, and landed it just as the first model hit the catwalk with the crowd behind him.

That’s the bit I love: music, timing, hosting and energy all working together so the moment feels effortless.

And yes, the little pleased-with-myself DJ dance at the end was absolutely justified.

Such a lovely little ceremony idea 🥹

Before asking guests to put their phones away, the celebrant invited everyone to take a selfie and send it to the bride.

And honestly, I thought it was beautiful.

The bride doesn’t usually get to see this part of the day. The guests arriving, chatting, smiling, getting excited, and waiting for that first big emotional moment.

So this gave her a tiny glimpse of the room before she walked in.

And yes, I absolutely joined in too.

One of the things I love about being involved earlier in the day is that by the time the ceremony begins, I’ve already spent time getting to know the couple, understanding their plans, and becoming properly invested in the atmosphere of their wedding.

So moments like this don’t feel like “just another wedding”.

They feel personal.

A wedding day isn’t just made up of the big moments.
It’s all the little ones quietly building towards them.

How we set the scene.

A light and sound check at Deer Park before the evening celebration began.

While the room was quiet, this was the moment to make sure everything felt right: the sound balanced across the space, the lighting placed properly, and the atmosphere ready to build once guests returned.

For me, this part matters.

The setup should look elegant in the room, the sound should feel full without being overpowering, and the lighting should lift the key moments without blinding anyone!

Because when the evening starts, it should feel effortless.
Calm now. Party later.

This aisle moment was never just “press play”

For this ceremony, the soundtrack had been gently building from the moment guests arrived.

The bridesmaids and flower girls entered during the softer opening section, with the music carefully cued live from my handheld wireless setup. The sound was placed discreetly in the room, giving the ceremony a full, immersive feel without the equipment becoming the focus.

Then came the build.

The chorus landed just as the bride walked in with her dad, before fading naturally into the applause as she reached her groom.

It’s a tiny detail in the grand scheme of the day, but it can completely shape how that moment feels.

Ceremony music should feel effortless, emotional and perfectly timed. 🥰

Today I’m at The Doe in Buckfastleigh for a beautifully relaxed wedding celebration.
A casual buffet, guests drifting inside and out, harp music for the drinks reception, and a proper feel-good party later on. Exactly the kind of day where keeping the atmosphere natural and the music flowing makes all the difference.
Lovely to be part of it.
