Last week I got hit by a positive Covid test after a wedding I had photographed. It meant I had to find cover for the wedding I had the following Saturday. After some scrambling around and no small amount of help from the hero that is stepped in for me to work alongside who was already lined up for second shooting duties. What Debs didn’t realise was the epic that she was about to embark on. Storm Eunice knocked out all the power, heating and water at & original venue so Debs and Margo met the bridal party at a hotel nearby for prep before heading to a candlelit church in Devon for an intimate ceremony. In the morning Johanna had put out a tweet asking if anyone could help with a generator or venue. The tweet went somewhat viral and a new venue was sourced and the tweet was picked up by the BBC. Johanna & Sam were featured on BBC Breakfast this morning with and a couple of the photos Debs shot were featured. Thank you so much to Debs and Margo who were absolute stars. Not only standing in for me but also dealing with everything which came their way on Saturday!!

A wedding!! Yes an actual wedding. And a very special one at that. I met when we both worked in radio about 15 years ago. We connected through cricket, Alan Partridge and a bit more cricket. Thanks to Tony I’ve had experiences I will remember forever, Ashes victories and Kevin Pietersen wigs to name but two. I was delighted and humbled when he asked me not only to be the photographer at his wedding but also one of the witnesses at this wedding of 6 adults and their son Stan. and him make a great pair and great parents for Stan and I’m looking forward to getting to know Faith more. Their venue, the stunning is an absolute dream and St. Mawes pulled out the stops for a beautiful day. Congratulations to you both and much love forever.

I think we’re all a bit like was wondering when we might shoot a wedding again. I’m keeping everything crossed that I can get back to it next year cos I have some awesome couples who have been so patiently waiting for their time. Taking the opportunity during lockdown to update a few things on my website. You might think after 8 years of photographing weddings that I’d be glad of the break but nothing could be further from the truth. I am really missing them, literally everything about them. It starts with the excitement of that initial email and then when you get to chat to a couple for the first time and hear there excited voices, it’s a thrill. They’re a little bit nervous too but I’m there to help through that bit.
All the emails back and forth add to the build up and when you arrive at the venue on the morning of the wedding it’s so amazing, especially if it’s a warm, summers day. Such a buzz about the place with lots of happy faces all building up the the key moments in the day. The bride putting on her dress, walking down the aisle, the release of the first kiss and then necking a glass of champagne straight after the ceremony. Unfortunately I think I’m going to have to wait quite a while longer before I’m shooting again and I’m heartbroken for all those couples who’ve had to move their weddings so far. You know it’s for the greater good though.
If you’re missing your job too let me know what excites you about it.
There is one upside though, I won’t be getting fat eating all the cheese and wedding cake!!
