Taunton Brewhouse

With deep regret the Trustees of Taunton Theatre Association Ltd announce that, after careful consideration and exhausting all possible alternatives, the charitable company will cease operating on 31st October 2026. They confirm that Taunton Brewhouse will close on the same date.

All performances and events scheduled for October will go ahead as advertised. Tickets are still available for some of these shows and patrons are asked to book online if you wish to come to one of these events.

For thirteen years, TTA has been dedicated to operating Taunton Brewhouse as the town’s leading venue for theatre, live performance and creative expression, a much valued and loved community space.

Since the theatre’s temporary closure was announced on 21st September, we have worked to find a way forward. However, a combination of reduced funding, rising operational costs, increased responsibilities for building maintenance and lower ticket sales have left the charity unable to continue its work sustainably. Despite the generosity of individuals who have donated or pledged financial support over the past week, we have concluded that the regulatory and organisational frameworks in which we have to operate do not give us the time to develop and implement a robust survival plan.

An update on our future:

Taunton Theatre Association announced on 21 September that, without further funding, Taunton Brewhouse would close at the end of October.

Since then, we have spoken with many potential funders, individuals have generously offered money, and Taunton’s major performing arts societies have launched an online fundraiser.

We have been overwhelmed by this outpouring of support. However, we must now reluctantly conclude that funding on the scale needed will not arrive in time to prevent at least a temporary closure. Taunton Brewhouse will therefore close on 31 October.

All performances and activities will continue as normal throughout October. Performances scheduled after 31 October have been withdrawn, and we will contact tickets holders for those shows shortly.

Although we will close at the end of October, we hope the closure will not be permanent. This is why we’re excited to announce the launch of a pledge campaign to give supporters a way to help us achieve this ambition.

A pledge is not a payment, but an intention to give. Your money remains secure and will only be drawn on only when we are confident that our plans for the future reopening of Taunton Brewhouse are viable.

It is with heartfelt regret that the Trustees of Taunton Theatre Association announce that without further funds Taunton Brewhouse will close at the end of October 2026.

It is planned that all performances and activities will continue normally throughout October whilst we try to raise the necessary funds and identify cost savings. We will not take bookings beyond that date until the situation is clear. We will be in touch with those who have tickets for performances from November 1 shortly.
