What a lovely afternoon spent listening to Lisa Schneidau Storyteller tell woodland folktales as part of our programme in partnership with Swindon Festival of Literature lots of families came to this event and we were also joined by a woodpecker :)

Mirko Hanák, 1960s

Mirko Hanak~ Czechoslovokian~ Painter, Graphic Designer, Children's Book Illustrator~b. in Martin, he first studied visual arts in Zlin. After World War II, he studied at the 'Applied Arts' in Prague. He was fascinated with nature, plants woodland animals and birds and painted them in a very, unique style. Incorporating a mixture of Chinese traditional water colours, with a minimalist Japanese style of painting, and the colourful Czech culture, he implemented this onto rice paper with a combination of beautiful large brush strokes and fine detailed painting.
He illustrated numerous Children's books, including many Classics, calendars, posters and Cards. He is recognized as one of the most successful Czech illustrators.
