A huge thank you to Talycopa AFC for making the trip to The Corbwll and bringing two teams for what proved to be an excellent afternoon of pre-season football.
Our 2nd Team returned to action for the first time in two seasons, and despite a 5-1 defeat, there were plenty of positives to take. It was a tough test against a strong Talycopa side, but the lads worked hard from start to finish, created some good chances and got valuable minutes under their belts. Considering this is a newly formed squad, there was plenty to build on ahead of the new season.
Our 1st Team then battled to a 1-1 draw against a well-drilled and disciplined Talycopa side. The visitors took an early lead, but both teams created opportunities throughout the game, with both goalkeepers making a number of outstanding saves.
With 10 minutes remaining, we were awarded a penalty after a goal-bound effort was handled on the line by the Talycopa centre-back, who was shown a red card. Their goalkeeper then produced an excellent save from the spot to keep his side in front.
However, the lads kept pushing and got their reward with the very last attack of the game. Paul Sypliwtchak drove brilliantly down the left-hand side, beating several defenders before firing a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Under pressure, a Talycopa defender could only turn it into his own net, earning us a deserved equaliser with virtually the last kick of the match.
A valuable afternoon for both squads with plenty of positives to take into the remainder of pre-season.
