It was such a privilege to be part of the Christmas Service of Reflection at Graham J. Sullivan Funeral Directors yesterday, working with Rhys Watkins and his team to help bring comfort to families at this time of year.
Special Christmas Service of Reflection brings community together in Swansea*
As part of the UK Grief Awareness Week, a moving Christmas memorial service was held at Graham J. Sullivan Funeral Directors on Thursday evening, offering local families a comforting opportunity to remember loved ones as the festive season begins.
‘A Service of Reflection’, was warmly received, many
of those who attended commented that they were glad that they came along: “What a beautiful service – a mix of love, happiness and every emotion,” was the general consensus.
Families were invited to write their loved ones’ names on decorations for the Christmas tree, and to light individual candles of remembrance, while a visual tribute was shown featuring photographs of much-loved relatives.
The service was officiated by two local celebrants who work with the funeral home to support families and prepare heartfelt funeral services. Helen Chesterman and Vicky Griffiths Hwyl Ceremonies were once again delighted to lead the service of reflection allowing them to take a moment of quiet.
“We all had the opportunity to reflect on happy memories and the times spent with loved ones, and I know that it was so helpful to encourage a smile when it is needed most, and it was a privilege to share strength and care”. Helen commented.
Vicky said “it is vital to express our feelings, as grief lives on as long as love does. Loss can feel even more profound at this time of year as the Christmas period is such a milestone in all family lives”
After the service, guests stayed to chat, share memories, and enjoy a mince pie.
The service was organised by Rhys Watkins, Business Leader at Graham J. Sullivan Funeral Directors. “The funeral home has been a central part of the community in Swansea for decades and we were honoured to host this special evening for the families. We wanted to create something that would bring people together to find comfort. As a part of Dignity Funerals, we have had the privilege of caring for the families during a difficult time in their lives, and we’re always here to help.”
This is the second year that families have gathered together at the Ty Hedd funeral home in Mynyddbach, near Morriston in Swansea, and it is hoped that it will become an annual event.
