One of the unexpected perks of drought and a shockingly early harvest? The lads have finally had time to tackle the jobs Christopher has been putting off for 40+ years… 🫪

High up on the list: clearing out the wheat barn. 📋

Years of hand-me-down fridges that ‘might’ work, washing machines that ‘just need a little something’ and bits of wood that ‘may’ come in useful. There’s been frustration, laughter, head-scratching, some rogue items uncovered and a LOT of dust 🧼🧹

It’s pretty satisfying to finally see the floor again!!

The earliest start we can remember to a somewhat droughty, thin, wheat harvest. 🥵🌾

Hot hot hot …. But the wheat is all gathered in now and time for other tasks before we start on even thinner barley. 👨🏻‍🌾

Letters like these are always a highlight 💌

A few weeks after hosting the lovely Charlotte House Prep School for their annual residential, these landed on our doorstep. Some of our favourite snippets…

🌍 “As a fellow animal lover I will share my plans to stop climate change.”

🦋 “My favourite thing was definitely the moth identifying, because I learnt so many kind of species of moths and overcame my fear.”

🍽️ “I also really liked sitting down for dinner with the candles lit, and the long table with a big chairs at both ends.“

🐘 “My favourite moth was the elephant hawk as it was so colourful and pretty and it was a pleasure releasing it back into the wild.”

Thanks to all the children (and staff!) for bringing such enthusiasm and we’re already looking forward to welcoming you next year 🤗

A rather splendid line-up earlier in the week 🚘🤯

The eastern region’s Porsche Club PCGB R12 Norfolk & Suffolk rolled into Milden for a gathering of beautifully polished cars, a rather fitting posh Porsche Ploughman’s lunch in the Tudor Barn and a historic house tour afterwards. 😋

This , we’re celebrating our amazing summer visitors – even if the photo is one of our many house martins (the swifts are simply too fast to photograph)! 😅🐦

This year we’ve recorded eight house martin nests, a nesting pair of Red-listed swifts, and a successful brood of swallows here at Milden Hall. All three species have made the incredible journey from Africa to return to their nesting sites and feed over our meadows, fields and trees. 🌍

We’re proud to provide the habitat they need, and in return they fill our skies with pure aerial joy - for us and our guests. 🩵
