Guests can enjoy the throwing natural petal confetti in the Arboretum, a drinks reception in the Stackyard wedding garden and their woodfired Pizza oven courtyard for evening food. Whilst you have access to the wider grounds for photographs including Alpheton Hall gardens, medieval fishponds, and the green lane. Located close to the Suffolk / Essex border, the Barns are set at the end of a mile long no through road and yet are easily accessible from the popular villages and market towns of Sudbury, Long Melford, Lavenham and Bury St Edmunds.

To Nic and Carol

Looking back on our day. We have enjoyed reminiscing over the moments that have really stayed with us. For Gem seeing everyone’s smiling faces beneath the shade of the trees was very special. We will never forget the Guinea Fowl deciding to contribute it’s own commentary during the vows, providing some perfectly timed comedy!

One of our favourite moments was making our entrance through the smike machine followed by the dinner seeing ng all the people who meant the world to us in one space.

We wanted to send this card as a special thank you to you both for allowing us to create some of the most important memories in your barn. From rhe moment we first started planning you made us feel completely at ease .

Carol, in the lead up to the wedding and on the dsy itself your calm presence made everything feel effortless. So much of the smooth running of the day was down to you and we are so grateful for all your hard work behind the scenes.

Nic, thank you for your quirky ideas and enthusiasm and your willingness to help bring our vision to life. You always found a way to make things happen.. often adding an extra touch that made it better than we imagined.

We went into the process not knowing what a good wedding could really look like but you totally pulled it out of the bag

When Elle and Alex were married.

A gloriously sunny day saw Elle arrive in style (a Rolls Royce) for a simple ceremony in the West Barn before bubbles in the Confetti garden started off the celebrations!

Over 100 guests tucked into canapes and a 3 course wedding breakfast joined by a 50 evening guests who were treated to pizza and ice cream to keep the energy levels up.

Great company, venue, food and drink .. you can’t go wrong having these as the foundations of a wonderful party.

PS just for clarity, we had nothing to do with the bride ending up in A&E ar 3am due to an infected insect bite from a few days previous. Not what you want on your wedding night!

A fun filled day with an extra special guest … Pip’s father Tony was part of the original very small team of people who worked to restore the Barns more than 17 years ago now and to our minds part of its fabric. Seen in these images with Granddaughter Megan (who’s own speech brought tears to everyone’s eyes) and giving his father of the Bride speech.

Pip & Ewan had a beautiful and fun filled day with Pip being driven to the woodland in a classic car, a lovely relaxed wedding breakfast and lots of treats for young and old .. garden and table games, sweets, a delicious cake, icecream and a DJ to name a few.

This was a proper family wedding with friends and family creating the florals and decor in the Barns.

Did you know we welcome couples back to visit after their day if they wish? Some couples come back for major anniversaries or to show their children where they got married. All part of the AHB family.

Alice & Charlotte .. what a day!

Fabulous couple, family and friends with so much to enjoy. Expertly crafted vegan food, locally grown flowers, weather vane pride flag in the confetti garden, lego cake topper showing the location they got engaged, a delightfully chaotic Ceilidh and a sneaky go on the zip wire just for starters. And we managed to ensure that both of them walked down the aisle without seeing the other.. the joy of lots of doors and hidey places!

A special mention to Alice’s sister who not only made her own dress but Charlotte’s stunning wedding dress as well. Her first attempt at dress making.

A wonderful day with friends and family included a flower boy throwing petals in the woodland aisle before the bride walked down escorted by her stepfather and grandfather.

The couple had plenty of time to chat to guests but also explore the grounds of Alpheton Hall with their photographer before their lively reception in the Barns. And of course the couple’s cats were there ‘in spirit’.

25 years ago Nic and I were married at Alpheton Church and held our reception in the then even more rustic South Barn.

This weekend we celebrated our 25th Anniversary and our four children’s milestone birthdays in one big party. And it was a blast!

Oh and the football went on the screen behind the band at 10pm so people could dance and watch it too. Love the lead singer Juno & The Watts ‘well this is a first’ who was absolutely encouraged to watch too. As you can imagine the evening finished with more celebrations!

The devil is in the details ..

Just a couple of examples of the behind the scenes logistics for your day.

Firstly: Richy & Laura had dancing in the middle of the Barn between courses which would have put their lovely cake at risk. The cake was set out to one side on the AHB tree trunk cake table then wheeled into place before speeches and cake cutting.

During the dance the British and Mauritius flags were unfurled above the dancers .. a feat of engineering in itself!

Secondly: the couple needed to do their lift in a particular location to maximise the confetti drop so X marked the spot!

Lastly: the Barn’s stage is a real focal point for your DJ or band and gives them a safe space with good visibility of the dance floor and party. We have a huge spares kit to cover forgotten or broken kit or cables too.

Every wedding is different so we double check your plans on set up the day and make sure there is nothing you have forgotten to tell us. You can have a practice aisle walk, first dance and entrance to the meal too so that you leave feeling comfortable that everyone is on the same page.
