🎈 A very special 1st birthday! 🎈

Last Saturday we had the pleasure of setting up Poppy’s Play Patch for a gorgeous little one’s first birthday, our little friend Pippa's party🥳

First birthdays are always quite special, with it being the first celebration of many, many more to come. Seeing family and friends get together to celebrate a first birthday is a really lovely environment.
We set up for an Alice in ONEderland theme, with our Tuff trays making an appearance 👀

Every single booking continues to support what we're trying to build in Poppy’s memory , helping us put on our free play days, raise awareness and keep growing this little idea into something we're incredibly proud of.

Poppy’s Play Patch 💕

After so many years of avoiding talking about Poppy’s story, I now find myself with two presentations coming up where that’s exactly what I’ll be doing.

I’m currently writing everything down, Poppy’s story, our memories, the difficult parts, and how all of that eventually led to Poppy’s Play Patch.

Putting memories into words and realising I’ll have to stand up and talk them through is a pretty big deal for me. But it’s one I’m really keen to accomplish.

Over the last 12 months, Poppy’s Play Patch has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of. Alongside that, it’s also helped me become more comfortable talking about Poppy, sharing her story and explaining why what we’re trying to achieve means so much to us.

So, as daunting as this feels, I’m genuinely looking forward to standing up and telling people about Poppy, her story, and what we’re trying to build in her memory. (My knees will for sure turn to jelly on the night!😂)

Also very grateful for the people around me who’ve helped me get to a point where I feel able to do this. You know who you are ❤️

A beautiful set-up last weekend, a lovely family… and a little learning curve for us! 👀

Sunday’s set-up didn’t quite go as smoothly as we’d have liked! 🙈

We arrived ready to set up, only to discover we were at the wrong venue. After a slightly panicked check back through our emails, we realised the family had let us know that the venue had changed , and unfortunately, we’d missed it!

We’re a small family run business, juggling Poppy’s Play Patch alongside work, family life and everything else that comes with it, and occasionally mistakes will happen. But that doesn’t mean we simply shrug them off.

For us, this highlighted a gap in the way we manage changes after a booking has been made. So rather than just putting it down as “one of those things”, we’re using it as an opportunity to improve our booking process and make sure important changes like this are much harder for us to miss in future.

Thankfully, the family we were setting up for were absolutely lovely and incredibly understanding, which we were so grateful for. We got ourselves to the right place, got everything set up , and hopefully still played our little part in making their day special. 🥰

And once we finally made it there… what a venue! 😍🏰

Such a beautiful setting for a celebration and definitely one we’d love to return to … preferably heading to the right address first time next time! 😂

Running a small business is always a learning curve. We won’t always get everything perfect, but we’ll always care, take responsibility when we don’t, and try to come back better from it. Thankfully this was the first error in just over a year’s trading!

A little look back at the last 12 months.

Sometimes it’s only when you look back through the photos that you realise just how much has happened!

From birthday parties and family celebrations, to community events, new equipment and some really special days supporting local families and organisations — Poppy’s Play Patch has been in a lot of places over the last year.

Every single booking, share, recommendation and message helps us continue what we set out to do: create something positive in Poppy’s name, bring smiles to little faces and give something back to our local community.

We’ve got lots we still want to do, plenty of ideas we want to bring to life, and hopefully many more memories like these to make. ❤️

We’ve been a little quieter on here recently while we’ve been enjoying life with our newest little arrival 👶 — but we are back, and we want to get some of our role play equipment out and about this August!

Alongside our usual soft play packages, we have a growing collection of larger role play setups which are perfect for slightly older children for their parties, play dates, events, nurseries and community groups.

Including:

🏥 Hospital & MRI Scanner – perfect for practising doctors, nurses and radiographers
☕ Coffee & Cake Shop – serve up coffees, cakes and plenty of pretend treats
🍳 Role Play Kitchen – cook up a storm and force feed the parents your delicious bakes
🛒 Supermarket & Checkout – fill your basket or trolley, scan the shopping and take your turn behind the till
🚐 VW-style Campervan (photos are coming soon)– our wooden sleeper van for little adventures
🏕️ BBQ & Camping Setup (photos are coming soon)– complete with tent, BBQ and seating for the ultimate pretend camping trip

Play with purpose

Earlier this week we had the privilege of joining SSNAP for a second time. This time for their very special family event.

We’re extremely proud to support an organisation that does so much for families of sick and premature newborns, both during their time in hospital and beyond.

One of my favourite parts of the day was simply having the opportunity to talk to families, hear some of their stories and understand more about the challenges that can continue long after leaving hospital.

Poppy was very poorly throughout her life, but our journey was spent entirely in hospital. We never experienced what life after hospital looked like with a child who had been seriously unwell, so hearing families talk so openly about that side of their journey was incredibly eye opening.

Something that really stayed with us was hearing just how important it is to have spaces where families can bring their children and simply enjoy being together, without judgement, comparison, and without feeling like they need to measure their child against what another child of the same age is doing. Let’s face it, we naturally compare our little ones. And when you’ve got a little one who’s had a challenging start to life, you don’t need to add further stress by being constantly reminded of this everytime you venture out to play groups.

That really hit home with us.

Every child has their own story, their own journey and their own achievements. Having a space where families feel comfortable, understood and able to enjoy their children exactly as they are is something we have so much respect for. And that’s exactly what this day was about.

We had such a lovely day providing the soft play and seeing the children and families enjoying themselves. Days like this are exactly why Poppy’s Play Patch exists … using our little business to support families, start conversations and hopefully make a small difference where we can. 🌸

A huge thank you to SSNAP for inviting us to be involved, and to all of the families who chatted with us and shared a little of their world.

We’re very proud to partner with such a fantastic organisation, and look forward to supporting again.
