Alrighty then Sunsleepers, Friday nights always used to be the best night out of the week!

Going the pub after work of a Friday used to be compulsory, until the wet wipes got in and put a damper on it…….

So we’re bringing “having a skin full after work” back, for a special occasion, on Friday, 3rd July, we’re having a party, at the Pot Bank, down Stoke, and we’d love you to come along. You, and all of your mates. And all of their mates too, because we’re trying to raise a few bob in memory of young Niamh, who sadly succumbed to her Earthly struggles in February of this year.

Every penny collected will go to the Dougie Mac Hospice, who cared for Niamh for the last six months of her life.

Friday 3rd July will be a celebration of life, with live music, and the Substitute DJ’s playing throughout the night, until they kick us out. Just like it used to be.

Alrighty then sun seekers, what a glorious day!

For once the weather men have brought the sun for a Bank Monday weekend!

There’s a carnival atmosphere down ‘Castle, particularly at The Carlton, it’s scorchio on the front terrace, and there’s music and dancing all day long!

I shall be playing a bag full of those sunny day Disco tunes from 7:30pm, through until close, you don’t want to miss this one! Even my Mrs is coming out!

Can I just say, it’s been at least ten years since my Mrs came out to watch me play records, but she’s out tonight! Unbelievable Jeff!

As a Yank, she missed the acid house thing altogether, and came over here in search of the Smiths and the Cure, but some how, got lumbered with me. It’s a long story, but if you buy me a pint, I could be persuaded to tell you the whole unbelievable thing………

Laura will be at the bar, signing autographs, in return for cocktails and champagne. Please don’t mention this to her, as she most likely to come over and knock me out, and then the music would go off, so just keep it schtum, and nod graciously, like I do, it’s the best policy if you don’t like hospital food……..😬

Alrighty then thrill seekers!

Monster Bank Holiday weekend fast approaching, and it’s going to be scorchio!

On Sunday, I’m making my return to The Carlton, down ‘Castle, the only place in town with a sunshine terrace out front!

It’s Lymelight Festival weekend too, so there’s stuff going on everywhere, and The Carlton have live music throughout the day.

I shall be playing those Funk & Soul grooves, and bag full of those Bob’s Disco classics that you’ve missed over the past year!

I’ll be playing from around 7.30pm until close, all night long……….

As always, it’s totally free, there’s no tickets or donations required, just bring your dancing shoes!

Alrighty then music lovers, I’ve hit the big time!
I’ve only gone and won round one of the pop quiz on Radio Stoke’s Breakfast Show this morning!
Got me own victory tune and everything!

It’s about 3 hours 20 into this link, is there any way of cutting these BBC Sounds things down so that I can hear how bad a Stoke accent can sound ?

There’s no fast forward and I fell asleep inside an hour trying to listen through!
The Underground, Golden and Keele get a shout out!

Round 2 tomorrow morning, bring it on!

The decision to make the warm up slot at last night’s Golden Classics event into a back to back session was nothing short of dumb, and not something I want any part of, ever again. Throw in a few technical issues, and a smattering of technical incompetence, and you have recipe for turning, arguably the most important part of any event, into a dog’s dinner.

To redress the balance, I’ve re-recorded the tunes in my playlist into something more like what it should have sounded like. I hope you like it.

A re-recording of my playlist due to technical issues on the night. Once again the Golden faithful came out in their masses to support the Bank Holiday classics event. Viva Golden!

Lots of great memories from Keele Uni, not least of which from my time there as a student (my third go at uni) and the Golden revival gigs, to all of the bands we watched and worked with over the years!

We were asked to do the warm up thing for the Craig Charles gig last night, an absolutely top notch and well run event at Stoke's best venue!

Substitute DJ's (Me!) are playing before Craig from 6 to 7:30pm, alongside Master Cats and Average Joe, followed by Edit Grant (Harvey) to round off the night!

A showcase of local talent not to be missed, I'd love to see you there!

The HitMix this morning was an absolute blast!

Me and Phil went in to tell the tale of the Blue Plaques, with Colin and Robbie, the trouble was we only got half way through the story!

The phone lines were open, and HitMix listeners phoned in with tales of nightclubs we’d never even heard of!
It’s clear that nightclub nostalgia is alive and well all over Stoke-on-Trent!
So the story will continue!

Colin does a Friday show, and in the coming weeks, he will have guests from the eras we ran out of time for, probably starting with Lee & Pete, to tell the story of The Void and Satchmo’s, from Acid House to Hip Hop!

Once again we were overwhelmed by support from far and wide, for the art project to paint a really big mural, (not Muriel!) depicting Dance Music over the past 60 years!

And many thanks for the extremely generous donation from the Hit Mix community fund!

We’re well and truly on the way now!

Well, I was going to save this one until tomorrow, but I’m being somewhat overtaken by events!

As you see from the poster, we’re on the Hit Mix on Thursday morning, telling the story for the Blue Plaques, and the progress with the ensuing wall mural project, with none other than Colin Curtis and Robbie Benson.

Colin is Britain’s leading authority on Dance music, and its evolution over the past 60 years or so. His encyclopaedic knowledge, and recall, is nothing short of astonishing, and makes our Pete look like he’s just playing at it! A leading light for Northern Soul, Jazz Funk, and all that followed, there’s nobody else comes close!

Robbie is the inspiration, and owner, of the Hit Mix radio station. The only bloke for miles around to hold a Community Radio licence. A DJ since the early 70’s, he’s got anything and everything mainstream boxed off!

The Hit Mix is a favourite with those who have the radio on at work, all the trades, sites, offices and factories, as well as the local community.

We were looking to promote our Crowd Funder for the wall mural project, the support for which has been truly unbelievable!

I'm literally blown away!

As I write this, we’ve reached 90% of the total! In just a few days! We can’t thank you enough!

Anyways, they’ve asked us to come in, and tell our story, for two hours on Thursday morning between 9 and 11am. If you’re one of those with an interest in the history of Dance Music and Youth Culture in Stoke-on-Trent, which is pretty much all of you reading this, then tune in to the Hit Mix!
