🎪 **The Evolution of Glastonbury Festival** 🎶

It all began in **1970**, the day after Jimi Hendrix died. A dairy farmer named **Michael Eavis** hosted the first event at Worthy Farm in Somerset. It was called the *Pilton Pop, Folk & Blues Festival*, and for just £1, you got entry, camping—and free milk.

By **1971**, it had transformed into the *Glastonbury Fayre*, aligning with the summer solstice and embracing a more spiritual, countercultural vibe. That year also saw the debut of the iconic **Pyramid Stage**, inspired by the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Throughout the '80s and '90s, Glastonbury grew in size and ambition. It became a platform for **political activism**, especially with its ties to the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. The festival also weathered challenges—like the infamous 1990 riots and the Pyramid Stage burning down in 1994.

By the 2000s, Glastonbury had become a **global cultural phenomenon**, hosting legends like David Bowie, Beyoncé, and Radiohead. It now draws over **200,000 attendees** and millions more online.

Today, it’s not just a music festival—it’s a celebration of **art, activism, and community**, with areas dedicated to everything from circus acts to healing fields. And through it all, it’s stayed true to its roots: a wild, muddy, magical gathering that captures the spirit of the times.

I kept postponing this write-up on one of the world's greatest music masterminds in history, Frank Farian who passed on a few months ago.
How do you describe a man who will compose and record songs for a yet-to-be-formed group? this is what he did for both Boney M and Milli Vanilli.

Frank Farian, born Franz Reuther on 18 July 1941, was a German record producer and singer who left an indelible mark on the music industry. He was born in Kirn, Germany, and was raised by his mother along with his two siblings after his father was killed in World War. He initially trained as a cook before discovering his passion for rock and roll.

In the early stages of his career, he formed a band called Frankie Boys Schatten and released their first single, "Shouting Ghost", in 1964, which unfortunately didn't do well. However, he didn't let this setback deter him. In April 1967, he released a cover of Otis Redding's "Mr. Pitiful" under the name 'Frankie Farian. His German-language cover of Dickey Lee's "Rocky" stayed at No. 1 for four weeks.

Farian is best known for founding the 1970s disco-pop group Boney M. He recorded "Baby Do You Wanna Bump" in late 1974, which was released in 1976 as a single and on the album Take the Heat off Me under the pseudonym Boney M. The group achieved massive success with songs including "Daddy Cool", "Rivers of Babylon", "Rasputin", and a remake of "Mary's Boy Child"¹. It is
known fact that all the deep male vocals on Boney M's songs were done by Frank Farian in the Studio, while Bobby Farrel performs them on stage.
He also founded the Latin pop band No Mercy and the pop band Milli Vanilli. However, Milli Vanilli was involved in a lip-synching controversy when Farian confessed that the duo had not sung on their records. This led to their Grammy Award for Best New Artist being revoked.
In later years, Frank Farian claimed to have turned down a request to produce Michael Jackson's Dangerous album in 1991, but had worked with other artistes like Stevie Wonder and Terence Trent D'arby(Remember him?).
In the mid 90's he scored a hit with Euro Dance duo La Bouches on the song 'Be My Lover' establishing his longevity as a production master act.

Despite the controversies, Farian's impact on the music industry was undeniable. Throughout his career, he sold over 850 million records and earned 800 gold and platinum certifications. He died on 23 January 2024 in Miami, Florida at 82 years old.

Like him or not, his legacy has been established for creating two of the most known groups in the world.
