Midweek Sounds: and it's a couple of new releases from the Heavy Soul label. First up is the latest single from Cian Downing 'Stop The Racists Now'. I'm liking this ska tune and am looking forward to catching Cian live again when his band plays The Cluny 2 in Newcastle in a couple of weeks time.
Next up is the first in a series of 'On The Scene' EP's with the 4 tracks on this one all coming from 1964. First track up was a big fave at Get Hip Shel Naylor's 'One Fine Day'. This tune was written by Dave Davies of The Kinks and thinking about it The Kinks gave some cracking tunes away - 'All Night Stand', 'Nobodys Fool', 'I Go To Sleep' and of course 'One Fine Day'. I'm looking forward to the other EP's in this series.
Also go a CD to play too which came with issue 67 of Heavy Soul! modzine. Some me of my faves in the zine like Paul Bevoir (The Jetset) and The Hornets.

It’s Time For The Times And Edward Ball! This is the most ambitious (over 40 bands involved), most time consuming (many years in the works), most delayed (first submission was almost 15 years ago), most expensive (you can just imagine what it costs to mail 40 bands copies) release that we have eve...

I've put up a Get Hip! playlist on spotify. It's more the recent/current bands & artists that I'm listening to rather than the records that were played at Get Hip although you'll of heard the Tito Ramirez one getting played out on 45 at our night. Had the club still of be going I'd of been looking at booking some of these artists on the playlist for our night.

Weekend Sounds: and it's the latest release from Canadian label The Beautiful Music - I Helped Edward Ball Escape!' a tribute to The Times/Edward Ball.
This is a double CD set featuring 44 tracks in total and does include a couple of North East artists in The Che Men and also Tetley.
Other artists on this CD set include Colin Swan from the Direct Hits, True Stories whose line up includes Bart Mendoza from Manual Scan/The Shambles, Lovejoy, The Eddies, The Painted Word, The Yellow Melodies, etc. Have to say that this is really well put together tribute, I'm loving the artwork and although most of the artists are new to me I'm really enjoying the songs on this CD set. Well worth picking up!

'Echoes Of The 30s' was our debut album which came out on Red Star Recordings in 2024. The vinyl only release was a mix of mod, indie, punk, ska & reggae and featured a guest appearance from Martin Bottomley (aka Martin Hewes) from the 80s band the Redskins. The artwork for the record was done by Paul Bevoir (The Jetset) and based on an old Spanish Civil War poster.
The record quickly sold out and last year it was re-issued on compact disc with 3 bonus tracks including a dub mix of 'Wasted Lands' done by Nasser & Trev from Big Boss Man.
You can still pick the 'Echoes Of The 30s' CD up from our Bandcamp page which comes with a free download and I think that Record Revivals in Scarborough may have a copy or two of the CD in stock.
'Echoes Of The 30s' is also up on all the major streaming sites.
