A huge thank you to Deputy Mayor of Stockport, Cllr David Meller, for taking the time to come down and visit us at the C-Street Indie Market on Sunday. ❤️

We had a really positive conversation about Castle Street, the challenges we’ve been up against and, most importantly, what we’re trying to achieve through C-Street.

We talked about our ideas for the future, the need to bring footfall back into the district centre, support our existing independents, encourage new businesses and create more reasons for people to spend time on Castle Street.

Sunday was a perfect example of what we know this street is capable of. When we create something for the community to come out for, people show up. There’s an appetite for Castle Street to feel busy, vibrant and full of life again - and that’s exactly what C-Street is working towards.

We also spoke briefly about Twisted Eden and how the business is evolving. With more v**e shops opening locally, we made the decision to diversify and transition towards a modern general store; introducing fresh produce, pantry staples, refill cleaning, natural health products and more. It’s about adapting, listening to our community and becoming something that Castle Street actually needs.

That same principle sits at the heart of C-Street.

We want to listen to the people who live here, work here and use this street. We want to create opportunities for small businesses, bring people together through events and work alongside the council and other organisations to tackle some of the bigger challenges facing our district centre.

There is a lot of work still to do, but we genuinely believe Castle Street can thrive again.

Thank you, Councillor Meller, for coming along, listening to us and taking an interest in what we’re building.

C-Street is about showing what Castle Street can be - and then helping to make that the everyday reality.

We would like to thank all of our amazing traders and volunteers for all of their hard work today!

Also thanks to stockportcouncil for cleaning the street before we arrived to set up. It makes a huge difference to our timings not having to litter pick and sweep up!

We’ve seen a few people say they didn’t know it was on. We do apologise; we have listed the event on a number of pages, a fair few pages have shared it, we’ve plastered posters in shop windows and on lamp posts, have paid for a boosted post to reach local people, have been shared by our traders and we have a big banner on the railings at the Royal Oak end of castle street/Edgeley Road.

I’d like to remind people that this is a not for profit event, organised and managed by volunteers with the support of the council and local councillors.

We are short on volunteers so if you’d like to help us please get in touch.

Our mission is to bring life back to our high street, these events do just that! But we can’t do it alone on a £0 budget (yes that’s what we started with!), we need your support. We’re so excited to welcomGroundwork Greater Manchesterer to the C-Street Indie Market on Saturday 16th August.

They’ll be there to chat about their plans for Castle Street and the green improvements they’re working on to help transform our public spaces. You’ll also be able to speak to me and our District Centre Manager about what’s next for C-Street, the projects already in the pipeline, and how we’re working together to bring positive change to our high street.

If you’ve lived in Edgeley for a while, you’ll know exactly how many people feel. Castle Street has so much history, so much character and so much potential, yet for too long it’s felt overlooked. Shops have closed, buildings have become tired, footfall has fallen and many people have stopped believing things can change.

But here’s the thing… they can.

Castle Street isn’t just another high street. It’s the home of Stockport County. It’s the first thing thousands of people see as they arrive by train. It’s full of independent businesses, passionate people and a community that genuinely cares. It deserves investment, creativity and ambition.

We all deserve a high street we’re proud to call our own.

The C-Street Indie Market started because we believed Castle Street could be something special again. Every event, every volunteer, every trader and every person who turns up is helping prove that our community hasn’t given up.

Now it’s time to build on that momentum.

Come along, ask questions, share your ideas and be part of shaping the future of Castle Street. This is our high street, and together we can help write its next chapter. 🌸

💙 are bringing a HUGE charity sale to Castle Street! Not only will our brilliant Edgeley store be there, but they're bringing friends from other local Moya Cole shops too. Expect tombolas, fashion and plenty of bargains.

Today’s task on Castle Street! 🌿🌸🌷

Imagine how much better the street could look and feel if we all just clean up after ourselves and take some responsibility 💁🏼‍♀️

Business owners: It takes 5 minutes to pick up litter and throw a brush about the front of your shop!

Visitors: taking your rubbish with you and putting it in one of the many bins is just common decency.

We’d all like a nicer street full of this shop and that shop but the only way we get that is by looking after what we already have. Support the small businesses where you can. Keep the place clean & tidy and we will attract more shops & more of the businesses that people have been asking for.
