Down to the bare bones

The building is almost unrecognisable inside. Everything has been stripped out and we can now really get a perspective of the space we will have when the cafe opens up looking over the river. Toilets are gone (don’t worry we will be getting new ones!), the bar is gone, the office space and reception has gone and the old council building has been completely removed. Upstairs is completely gutted. Now is the time all the services start to go in.

Demolition well underway.
Is this every boys dream? I wanted to have a go on the digger and crush the old council office but they wouldn’t let me. In fact I am not allowed on site now without steel capped boots, a Hard Hat and high vis jacket and when you see the demolition work that is going on it is not surprising. There are some big boys toys in action as the memories of the old priory are loaded into massive skips and taken away. I have to say though the skill of the driver was impressive as he started to take the old council offices down he was able to separate wood from steel and insulation while he was taking the building apart and put into separate piles. I could have stayed and watch for hours. Where the council offices was is going to be another bookable room and it is now that you can start to visualise the view from this room out over the deck to the river and Regatta Meadow. But of course the deck is no longer there as that was one of the first things to go. Inside the toilets have gone, the offices and reception have gone, the kitchen and bar have gone and now the contractor is putting the pressure on me to determine where I want the channel to go for one of the most important things in the new Priory…….. the beer lines.

Big News for The Priory Centre

From Monday 14th April 2025, fencing will be installed around The Priory Centre and part of the car park as redevelopment works move into their next phase.

The fencing will remain in place until 30th September 2026 to ensure public safety and secure the site - although the area may look a little different for a while, it’s all part of creating something incredible for the future of our town.

Note: The fencing and closure will not affect the access to the St Neots Rowing Club or the public slipway.

Please follow on-site signage to avoid parking in restricted areas.
We can’t wait to share more with you as the project progresses. Stay tuned and follow the latest updates on our website: https://www.stneots-tc.gov.uk/2025/04/priory-centre-start-of-construction/
