Plans for Edinburgh's Winter Festivals are entirely dependent on public health guidance and if guidance does not support these events they will not go ahead. There will be a ban on markets and bars in Princes Street Gardens this year.

ROYAL McGREGOR PUB CLOSED.

It is with a heavy heart that we need to inform our dear customers that the Royal McGregor will not be re-opened by the McGregor family who have operated the site for the past 20 years.

With only 18 months left on our current lease the COVID-19 pandemic could not have come at a worse time. Despite our best efforts our landlord would not agree to a lease extension which would have made continuing to trade a viable option.

We have shared so many wonderful memories with our loyal customers, family and amazing staff and will miss you all dearly. Thank you for being part of our success story, we will forever be grateful.

Please share any pictures you have either enjoying our hospitality or working with us. It would be nice to reminisce!

Best wishes for the future.

Calton Hill is the location of several iconic monuments and buildings: the National Monument, the Nelson Monument, the Dugald Stewart Monument, the old Royal High School, the Robert Burns Monument, the Political Martyrs' Monument and the City Observatory.

On top of Nelson's Monument is a time ball, a large ball which is raised and lowered to mark the time. The ball, constructed of wood and covered in zinc, and weighing 762 kilograms (1,680 lb), is raised just before 1 pm, and at precisely 1 pm, is dropped from atop the mast. The mechanism is now operated manually, based on the firing of the One O'Clock Gun.

British Airways has been one of the many airlines that have been trying their very best NOT to offer Customers refunds (or making refund requests as difficult as possible) when their flights have been cancelled, and this is despite the fact that the European Commission and the US Department of Transport both recently restated that refunds have to be offered.
