When a loved one passes away, there is a lot to organise at a time when emotions are already running high. Choosing somewhere to hold a wake shouldn’t have to add to that.

At the Square and Compass and the Castle in Spofforth we offer warm, welcoming spaces where family and friends can come together to share memories, stories, food and a little time together.

We can take care of all the details, from a selection of refreshments and buffet food to arranging the room and memory table so you can focus on being with the people who matter.

Malvern Events is getting behind Empty Chairs, a charity founded around the simple idea that too many people in the UK are living without someone to talk to, socialise with or share their worries and anxieties.

The initiative encourages people who may feel lonely or isolated to visit a pub or hospitality venue and sit in a designated empty chair area, ready to talk.

By wearing something orange, participants can make it clear that they are there to meet people and have a conversation.

The first Empty Chair is planned for 14th September from 6pm at The Square and Compass.
